Depends. If they ha e a backstory that is important and includes a family, it would be weird if they didn't have a family name, or at least a patri/matrimonial last name.
I feel like it adds a depth to the character and storytelling to have characters with surnames. But FFVII never bothered to use them in-game, which still disappoints me to this day.
They did try it with FFVIII but if the polls I've seen around here are any indication, nobody seems to have played it.
Since I prefer story driven games, I like my characters to have backgrounds and that included last names.
Yes, how else are my crossover crack fics going to have any kind of legitimacy with out last names.
But in all seriousness, I do like last names in games. Since they're uncommon more care goes into picking them and I like looking up the origins and/or meanings.
You can tell who is important in a Suikoden game, because they have last names
Don't care on the whole, though it makes playing the Sims harder if they don't have them. :shobon:
I think it makes them a little more human and cements family ties much better.
I don't really mind their absence, but given the choice I prefer them to exist.
I don't care, which is apparently false because I cared enough to both vote and post in this thread.
