Honestly, i you ever read any of the early drafts of VII's plot, it pretty much sounds like Parasite Eve. Jenova was originally very close to the concept of Mitochondria instead of an alien, and the game was meant to take place in a fantasy knockoff of New York City instead of Midgar. Though I doubt it will ever have a true connection beyond that since PE is based off someone else's IP.
