So... FFXVII thoughts?
Well XVI came out and the five people who owned a PS5 played it. As usualy, some like it, some had issues, and now that the newest entry has been released, it's time to quickly forget about it and start looking towards the future and what XVII might look like. What are your hopes and thoughts?

I personally would enjoy a return to Ivalice. Not in the spiritual sense, as in FFXVI, but an actual return to the world.
Pragmatically, I don't really care too much what they do, if anything, because I just can't enjoy modern Final Fantasy's version of "action." I despise stagger gages, the *ksh* *ksh* hyperbolic noises of combat, the singular point of view, the "cinematic press x now" nonsense, etc. etc. etc. And I'm sure that's what they'll do if they do indeed make FFXVII.
I know it will never happen, but I wish they would go retro. Other companies and games do action and big-budget cinema better than FF. And both SE and other companies have shown that 2.5d sendups are viable. I'd love to see something like that. Again, I don't expect anything like that within the FF context ever happening, but we're dreaming here.

FFXVI was fun. Could have used some more gameplay depth, but had a great story and compelling characters, and very tight combat. It just got fairly generic to play later on as the combat did not evolve much.
For XVII, I'd like to see more depth of customization and more RPG elements. And the return of playable party members. I think they try to do something different in each main FF entry so I also hope to see something new and exciting.

Hah, I was just thinking this morning that if we were going by recent FF history, i.e. the last twenty years or so. Then FFXVII should be another MMO designed to succeed XIV.

FFXVI and FFVII Rebirth showed us that they kinda have a kick for these (relatively) small open world maps full of sidequests right now so I guess we'll see more of that.
I'd love to see the return of a turn-based or even ATB system though, just to see what a 2020's take on it would look like. Though maybe that was FFVIIR too.
Finally, I want a realistic, down-to-earth game that's completely off the wall and swarming with magic robots. And also you should win things by playing.
