Kinock Yevon and Crusades (Spoilers)

When you are in Besaid for the first time go to the "Crusades" lodge (I think you have to) and Luzu says "We were Excomunicated from Yevon" meaning that the Yevon want nothing to do with the crusades but later in Mihen (What ever) you meet Kinock "One of the for maesters of Yevon. He leads the warrior monk but also commands the Crusades!"but hang on why would a Maester of YEVON command the crusades AFTER they were excomunicated?

That's the whole point of it all really. The Maester's of Yevon (the ones present were Kinoc and Seymour, but I'm sure Mika and possibly the Ronso guy) were defying the very teachings that they are sworn to abide by. Hence why Wakka is so outraged, and why Seymour replies with "Then pretend you didn't see it" etc.
