Just in case you haven't seen the announcement, you should note that flaming will not be tolerated in this or any other forum here at Eyes on Final Fantasy.
Personal attacks must cease, now. If you disagree with something said by another member, then feel free to express your disagreement as long as you do not insult or criticise the other person.
There is a difference between 'debating' and 'petty bickering'. Everyone has a right to their own opinion. Respect that right.
Since y'all clearly aren't taking notice of this thread, I'm gonna emphasise a few things:
Do not make debates personal.
Do not phrase things in terms of "people like you", "your precious leaders" or "your country's history".
An impersonal debate is far less confrontational and argumentative. Discuss ideas, don't try to prove that other people are wrong to believe as they do.
Don't be petty.
If someone disagrees with your religion/your political beliefs, this is not a personal attack and it is no excuse for posting a personal flame against another member.

USE THE 'WARN' BUTTON!
That's why we have it. If you believe a member has been personally insulted, or you feel that a post contains unacceptable content, use the 'warn' button to inform the staff of what you feel is wrong.
Depending upon the content of the post, staff may edit it and impose a temporary Eyes on Each Other/Eyes on the World ban against the member in question. Two weeks is the standard ban period, but this can be varied at the staff's discretion, depending upon the nature of the violation involved.
If you receive an EoEO/EotW ban and you're not sure why, feel free to PM a staff member for an explanation.
If you think someone else deserves an EoEO/EotW ban for something they've said, but you haven't bothered to click the 'warn' button to inform the staff, then there's little point whinging about it later. We are not omnipresent or omniscient.
To put it simply... utilise some common sense and common courtesy. That way, we can have contructive exchanges of opinion.

Sure, but not to insinuate that others are mistaken or foolish for having a different opinion. Usually, debates in this forum are about people expressing their own views and their reasons for having those views. No-one actually gets their mind changed about anything. All we learn is why other people think what they think. Removing that veil of ignorance is, by itself, a good outcome. 'Understanding others' doesn't mean 'agreeing with everything they say'.Quote:

However, simply clicking the 'warn' button is no guarantee that action will be taken. What a member considers 'inappropriate' is often very different to what the staff decide upon. If nothing happens because of a warned post, you can safely assume that several staffers have checked the post and not considered it in need of editing.
While two posts may be very similar in their content, often the context will affect how the post is dealt with. For instance, someone might say "what a bunch of morons!" to describe a bunch of reckless individuals who get drunk and then get hurt in car accidents as a result. This kind of statement is usually OK. However, if someone says "what a bunch of morons!" to describe women who, for religious reasons, refuse to have abortions after getting raped... let's just say that I pity the fool who makes such a statement.
you should not attack others because u disagree or you feel like you're the best. if you think so go isolate yourself and become your mind's king.
Eh...I'd say petty namecalling doesn't solve anything or cursing is just a way of expressing anger. Also most of the time when people are cursing...they tend to look unintelligent because they're unaware of what they believe in, so they just curse their way through everything.

You reasons for why people are unintelligent when they are cursing has got to be one of the most unfounded and stupidest arguments I have read in a while. Some people use a swear like any other verb or adjective. While you may not agree with it, it certainly does not make them ignorant.Quote:

I'm not entirely sure I understand this. You can't insult a person's beliefs or ideas, but you can criticse them, is that it? I'm just not sure, and don't want to get banned.

Just like "I think Shlup's stupid" and "I think Shlup's grammar is atrocious" are two completely different things. It's called respect. :p
Really, think about it as a matter of efficiency. Saying "omg ur stupid" doesn't prove anything. But you can say why you think they're stupid a lot quicker and easier if you skip the insults.
Something like that.
