Just look at this pic... the stoned Queen in the submerged castle / Celes, and Duncan / Banon.

And they recycle monsters over and over again. A lot of sprite-based games do that.

There are about four colour swaps of the soldier sprite, too. It's not really that uncommon in sprite-based games, as TheAbominatrix already pointed out.

And technically, the Queen in the underground castle looks like Maria, not Celes =P
