i'm kind of new to this game, so...
1. when a character fails to steal, what can i do so they have a higher chance of succeeding?
2. you know how the amount of required EXP towards the next level increases each time a character levels up? well, er, does the number ever stop at a certain point, or go on forever (hopefully not)?

1. You can increase your chances of successfully stealing by boosting a character's Luck statistic (with things like Luck Sources and Luck Plus materia), as well as by equipping somehow with Thief Gloves, which can be purchased in Midgar during Disc 3.
2. The number of EXP required to level up increases with every level until you get to Level 99.
Are you sure it's Luck, and not Dexterity?
Yuffie is the best with yellow materia. I'm not sure exactly which stat makes her the best though. Probably Dex or Luck.
steal materia raises your dextrecity by 1 point. dex = speed. i have better luck stealing when i have speed plus materia and the choco feather (dex +10% and dex +10 pts. respectively). both can be won at the battle arena in the golden soucer.
Yeah, so it's probably Dex that increases your steal rate. I'm pretty sure that Luck has to do with critical hits and such.
I knew it was probably Dexterity like in FFVI, but deep down inside I knew that it should be Luck. So I chose heart over brains and I do not regret it. :aimsad:
It is dexeterity that helps your characters steal more often. As for the 2 characters that steal the best, they are Yuffie(we all know why) then Tifa. Luck is your likeliness for getting a critical hit.
