im into collecting the cards now and im up to trabia garden but i cant get selphies card. i heard that you have to play selphies friend sitting at the fountain but when i try to challenge her she just talks to me normally. what am i doing wrong here???
I think you might have to finish the Trabia Garden part of the game first, then return there to challenge the person. Either that or you accidently pressed X instead of Square.
yes at 1st i had this problem too (just did this part yesterday). Just wait until you leave and they say go to Edea/Matrons house then get out of your garden and go back in and challenge her.
Oh and if this is your first time playing the game do some leveling up somewhere before you head towards Edeas house. I won't tell you what you'll be doing, but your basically at the end of disk 2
yeah i beat ffVIII before but in this new file of mine im trying to collect lots, if not all of the cards. you dont get to go to edeas house till disk 3 not disk 2. so what am i supposed to do?? finish trabia garden, get to disk 3 then go to edeas house then back to the garden?? or finish trabia then go to edeas house on disk 2 then go back?? i know im worrying alot about 1 card but im determined to get this particular card!!
EDIT: actually it might be on disk 2 u acctually get to go to edeas house. lol im lost, i havent played it for about a year thats why:p
Although you can't actually go INSIDE Edea's house until disc 3, you are supposed to arrive at its location on disc 2. What I believe Daryn is suggeting, however, is that you go inside the Garden after the Trabia event and tell Nida that you're going to Edea's house. Then, when you gain control of the Garden, just land again and re-enter Trabia before actually going to Edea's. Then you should be able to play her.
Exactly what I was saying
first complete all scenes in the garden then re-enter to challenge her but here's a nice trick you can pull off only once in the game:
first of spread open to Gabaldia and then no matter where you are don't mix rules (this is important very important)
then when in gabaldia garden for the first time go to the ice rink and from there to the changing room theres a trabia transfer student who plays trabia rules (horrid Random and plus rules yuk!) save your game before challenging him. when he asks to mix say yes then quit without playing the open rule should spread, if anything else happens reset the console and do it again. go save then challenge a Gabaldian Student in the classroom opposite the ice rink DONOT MIX RULES just say no untill eventually they'll give in and you play gabaldia rules only (OPEN and SAME is what you should carry) then go challeng the guy from trabia again mix rules and quit untill he abolishes Random or Plus (resetting as much as neccessarry, took me two days once to abolish a rule in dollet but it works believe me I got it of an FAQ and I thought crap but I was wrong) Once the first rule is abolished then go save if you spread same or abolished open you must Reset. get gabaldian rules again and you go challenge him again mix but do not play again if open is abolished or same is spread then reset if the second rule is abolished (Random or plus dependant on which is abolished first) save. you've now set Trabia up to the rules OPEN and what ever trade rule you're carrying when you go there you can get selphies card almost immediately :D .
this is a long and tiresome thing but it works eventually (Explains why I have Dollet, Trabia, and Balamb without any rules other than OPEN) Also Trade rules tend to deteriorate by this I mean it changes so that if you have anything other than 1 as the rule you're in for some trouble... however thanks to the FAQ I used and the sheer genius being I am I have got the exact changes for you which means I am about to tell you the best trade rule in the game:
Difference is the best as you get a minimum of two cards (of course you lose a minimum of two as well so always win or save first)
the reason for this is that if you play DIFF it CHANGES to ONE and if you play ALL it CHANGES to DIRECT
You left some things out of that strategy though.
With many TT players you can set a regions rules easier. When they say "your regions rules are different than ours, lets play with xxx's rules and our rules" just keep saying no and eventually they will just ask something like "Wanna play a card game" or "Oh, a game of cards?" or whatever. This is simpler imo.
Some people you must play by their rules though (queen of cards sidequest)
To prevent each new rule from spreading go back to Balamb after each rule is made. There is a man by the water docks (where you got on the boat for your first SeeD mission to Dollet) who will reset all the rules each time you play him.

Well my intrepid Triple triad players as soon as I finish writing my new site I will host the very FAQ I used on there and give you the address so that you may never have a problem.
The answering no allows you to play using that reigions rules alone I.E. Trabia - Random and Plus this means no Open or anything else will be used it is better to do what I suggest really and yes I also recognise I left many things out but the post was rushed out in a hurry.
there is one place you will have problems with and thats lunar gate and in space as it uses all rules in the game however challenge Pierre as soon as you arrive in space and he'll always abolish one rule. However I believe the door man to lunar gate also plays meaning you can probably change the rules before leaving the surface and using the abolished rule to abolish the others (usually Same from Gabaldia, Sudden death and Elemental from FH and all the rules from Centra/winhill)
If you can do that then getting Laguna's card and the Alexander GF card will be a piece of cake. (ellone holds Laguna's and pierre holds Alexanders this is the only chance for the Laguna card in the game except from the CC members if you complete the quest on disc 4.)
