When's the last time you patched your OS?
Windows hasn't asked me to in a few days. Surprising.
Today, but I only had to because I installed new hardware and the drivers shipped with it were painfully out of date.
(and on a related note, I now have zero free PCI slots. No more upgrades for me :()
The last critical update was weeks ago, so then.
A couple of weeks ago, for no particular reason other than that I haven't done it for a long, long time before that.
Weeks, I often go to the windows update site myself instead of the regular sort of sheduled update by windows.
Never. I use linux. :DOr so I wish, but even linux gets patches anyway, so yeah :p
I guess weeks ago whenever that ASM.1 bug patch thingy for XP came out - I don't bother get every last patch that comes out, only ones I think are important to me. (Although, I think the RPC one isn't important to me since I have a firewall running at all times, but I got that patch anyway). I think Windows Update for automatic updates is evil, and I disable it on all my machines :p
Windows update doesn't list any critical packages. They haven't for months now. Is this a good sign? Where else am I supposed to find 'must have' patches?
They list them. They just only release patches on a monthly basis rather than as soon as they're ready. Which is stupid.
I haven't patched Windows in a while. I should, but y'know.
Well right now I'm on my Imac since my dell like blew up and wont work so I have never patched this thing. I almost want this computer to die.
Um, Linux gets patched more than Windows. The patch number of the kernel can change daily.Quote:

And that's just the kernel.
Vast majority of those aren't critical patches though. Patches are how the kernel is written to begin with. Compare kernel patches to internel MS development processes.

And I think you're understating that, Unne. You could still run a 2.2 kernel if you really wanted to. But of course, you wouldn't want to.
Weeks and weeks ago.
If it ain't broke don't fix it. And if it is broke, buy a new computer.
