I guess it's ok for normal entertainment for most people (not me), but once it gets to the scale of the World Cup and stuff, then it's just a disease that seems to take over everyone's lives :p

You can't just say 'football', especially in a forum where there are people from all over, because there are so many different codes of football. I can think of:

'European' football/soccer
American football
Canadian football (it's slightly different to American, innit?)
Gaelic football
Australian football
Rugby league
Rugby union

They're all technically 'football'.
