Buggy FF7
This may belong in the help forum, but as it pertains only to FF7 I'll put it here (please move if it belongs in help)
Anyways, I don't know whats wrong but I had the sudden urge to play FF7 again as it's my all-time favorite game. But about a month ago I sold my PSX, so I've been playing my PSX games on the PSXeven emulator. In the past month I've beat my Legends of Dragoon, and FF9 on my comp and they played fine (rarely slowed down, and only during the movie sequences). Now theres no scratches on my FF7, but I just played past the North Mako Reactor #1 and the whole time it was buggy. If I held down any key the cgi's played fine, but walking and during battle was very slow and skipping. I'm wondering if theres a special emulator, patch, graphics card, etc that is needed to play this game, or if maybe my computer just doesn't like this specific game

I know there are special hex fixes on ePSXe that you need when playing FFVII. I don't know anything about your emulator, though.
Stalling for half a second here and there is normal on emulators - part of reading from a CD, it just happens. I don't know what you mean by "very slow" - can you run? Modify the battle speed in the Config menu?
-
what are the fixes? where can I get them?

Another option is to burn an ISO image of your FFVII CD and run off of the iso image rather than the CD. This way you can avoid load times and reading off of the CD, and it makes playing the game that much smoother.

Okay I posted this problem ages ago in the help forum, but I can't seem to run any games at the right speed using ePSXe. Can we get really basic instructions for the hex fixes, and that ISO trick (assume I know nothing, including what a hex fix actually is).

I've run FF7 on the latest ePSXe version 1.60 with no problems. Didn't need any patchs it ran straight away without a hitch.
I'm using the following plugins for ePSXe.
Graphics - Pete's DX6 D3D Driver 1.75
Sound - P.E.Op.S. DSound Audio Driver 1.7
CD-Rom - SaPu's CD-ROM Plugin 1.0
Best program for making images with is Alcohol 120% imo. Nero will do them fine as well.
To play a game from an image in ePSXe just goto File > Load ISO browse to the location you saved the image select it and click open.

Hmm, I'll try and get the same setup you have and try that, you know which site you got everything from?
I have Nero, but I haven't actually used it, how do you make the ISO from the CD? How does swapping the CDs work with ePSXe if they're in ISO form?
I'm really not good with this stuff.

I got my plug-ins from here.

As for making images with Nero. I'm not too sure as I can't stand the thing, so i've not used it that much. If it works anything like EZCD Creator then just drag the contents of the game CD to the other window which shows the new discs contents then find the option to create disc image or something along those lines.
With regards to changing to the next CD/ISO file. In ePSXe goto, File > Change Disc > Then choose either CDROM or ISO which ever one your using. Once you've done that goto, Run > Continue.

Okay couldn't see any of those plugins on that site, thanks for the help though, I'll look harder.

Sorry I took the names straight out of ePSXe.
I think the following are what i'm using.
Graphics plugin - Pete's GPU Plugins v1.75
Sound plugin - P.E.Op.S. DSound v1.7
CDRom - CdrSaPu v1.0
-
Aaaargh, still not working :(. Thanks again for the help though!

You can use ePSXe's core CD driver instead. There'll still be the stalls, but they're negligible.

I'm not a really big epsx fan. I've used psxeven forever and it played my ff9 and ff8 disks fine, but not my ff7. I have petes entire plugin pack for graphics and sound, peops sound plugin is what I use though, and I use daemon tools for my cd-rom. I have ISObuster, but I'm hesitant to make an ISO as I'm a couple hours into the game already and don't know if the ISO will load my saved games (I've always played off disks, never iso's) My only problems playing now are no battle swirl, which can be fixed but it doesnt bother me, and It's a little slow, probably from playing off the disk. Will the ISO load my saved games??

I've never used or infact heard of psxeven ePSXe was the first Playstation emulator I found that worked. Only been using for about a month tbh.
Anyway, ePSXe has a file which it uses to emulate the memory card. It's just a file on the hard drive. So if you played a game from CD or an ISO the save file is completly seperate.
I can't imagine the emulators gonna care if you started playing a game using the CD and then decided to make an image and run from an ISO file instead.
