I've always thought luck had something to do with critical hits. For FF8, it might have something to do with limit breaks and how often you get them (ever notice how occasionally, you get the option to use a limit break even if you're not on critical health?) Maybe it also has something to do with GFs and their Boost ability (e.g. sometimes, not matter how hard you try, you can only get Quezacotl up to 130 because the little red cross stays up longer. Usually, it'll be around 150-160. And occasionally, you get less of the little red cross and can get up to 170-180.)
But that's just my two cents.
luck improves a variety of things in 8 it increses your chance to devour a enemy (hence I have a high luck stat) and it reduces the chance of a status effect working 255 luck is rather like having 50% resistance on all status's + ensuna = a rough 70% defence rate against status. The higher your luck the less a one hit kill move will hit you too. Chocobo forest (bit of guess work) might be affected by the luck stat as well. Finding rare items is also affected by luck stat it's useful also speed and evasion go up (a little a very little) with the luck stat
luck affects odin/four armed guys appearence in battle, getting items, limit breaks. Plus it affects chances of devour working.
And it allows you to get farther on the strip quistis mini game :love:
