I'm going to buy an XBox live kit soon and I need to know something. Do I need CAT5 cable to connect from my XBox to my Cable modem or do I need another type of cable, does the kit come with the cable needed to connect to my modem?

Ok, the kit comes with a very short network cabel (should be cat 5), but if your planning to use it you'll probably need a longer one cos we're talking no more then 2 meters of length (use google to convert that to feet and inches if you want to know).
Now you mention a cable to connect to your modem, but what kind of connection does that require? USB? Network? Because if it is a USB you'll need to either buy a router or new modem with Network Jack.
Im sure all cable modems have both usb and ethernet hookups. I just used my 10 foot ethernet cable I had lying around. I didnt have a router when I had Xbox live so every time I wanted to play, I had to disconnect my Comp. from the internet....That Sucked!
