I'm in the world of ruin, and I was thinkin I'd find locke before goin to beat kefka's ass. but I cant find him. where is he?
and does it matter that I accidentally left shadow to die on the floating continent?

I'm in the world of ruin, and I was thinkin I'd find locke before goin to beat kefka's ass. but I cant find him. where is he?

Locke is found at the end of the Phoenix Cave. You can get to the Phoenix Cave by going north of Tzen on the airship to the mountains that make a star, or circle, and "landing" in the middle, much like you "land" on Kefka's Tower. You will then make two parties to explore the cave and off you go.
And yeah, it matters that you left Shadow on the Floating Continent. You can't get him back. If you don't wait until 5 seconds are left on the countdown clock when leaving the Floating Continent he dies, forever, and you can't get him back in the World of Ruin.
But that's okay! You can just play through another game and wait for Shadow! And then you have to (SPOILER)bet the Striker in the Colosseum and beat Shadow to get him back. *nods*
