I don't hate humes, I like them in fact. That's why I picked one over a taru. I like them better than the tarus and didn't think the stats would be that much different. I thought no one would take me seriously if I played a taru.
Erm how would people not take you seriously if your a taru? That makes absolutely no sense at all.

I'd sub summoner to make up that intelligence I lose to a tarutaru, but I hear black mage/summoners get no group invites. Black Mage/Summoner would probably be the ideal choice for me, because I don't like to heal, need that extra MP, and want to make up as much damage to the taru as possible, but I'll bite the bullet and go red mage for invite's sake.
Whether you like it or not BLM/SMN is very limiting, you have all this MP but you CANNOT cast anything like chain casting without displacing hate. So i say your just going to be wasting your MP. That MP is better of healing/Enfeebling and benefitting the party. A BLM/SMN cannot lift a finger to save the PT when it was in deep crap, and could have kept the tank alive long enough for me the real WHM to regain all the MP I drained healing. Instead of healing, the BLM cant do alot since the nukes will displace hate and kill him...and without healing the tank eventually died. A /WHM is much MORE beneficial to the party, than a /SMN. And hence doing that for the party is much more important as a party leader, party as a whole and not just one member. BLM/SMN is very situational and not very versitle.
/RDM is about the same, WHY RDM when you can have WHM and do your job much much better? I gladly more invite a /WHM than /RDM on a BLM really..because they offer more for the party's benefit and can help me do more. Plus it takes longer for you to heal to a maximum potential as a RDM sub because BLM has no healing attirbute and RDM sub maxes out healing at a lower level.
You can do whatever sub you want, but i prefer a WHM for the party's benefit, somehow when people lvl inappropiate subs...alot of people do view them as lazy..i would say lvl it, its not that hard, but its up to you.

I don't think I'll be leveling white mage at all. Two of my alts were cleric/shaman in Everquest for the PS2, and that's just not me. People always begging for rez, begging for spirit of the wolf, asking for buffs, blaming you when the group dies. That just isn't me. Sure I'll get a few less invites going red mage then I would going white mage, but I just don't have the patience and can't deal with people well enough to be a white mage.
A WHM usually doing their job is very rewarding in my opinon. I only been called that once and thats because i was tired and fell asleep...>< Bad of me...
But for those that blame you just /blist add xxx then seek another party. Its easy to live WHM life...i dont see the hardship in it. Raise? ( I am Busy right now)...bother you again. "dont make me blist you" And if they do so again just blist em. Anyone that bothers you that much and makes you feel bad in that manner needs to be that way. Plus if everyone dies a BLM/WHM lvl 50 can at least RaiseI someone :P.
i find:
/WHM to be most versitile and can offer WAY more than any other sub to help the party.
/RDM to be ok..it works, but it is limited in terms of status aliments and spells, since alot are overlaps and have lower skill in other attributes.
/SMN, most MP, but MP somewhat useless and even more limited to help the party out.
But thats just me.

I don't know about trying another class. I guess that's what one of the good things about the hume is. They can play pretty much any class decently. I wanted to be a nuker when I started playing FFXI. I was a rogue in Everquest, which was the second strongest melee character. I noticed in Everquest that the melees were always in less demand in the high end game then casters. Wizards would be the prime pick for those uber mobs, and us melee would always be dealing the inferior damage. Nobody wanted a rogue, everyone wanted a wizard or a necromancer. I notice this trend in FFXI as well.
While that is somewhat true its just that everyone needs a Mage to be in their party in order work properly. A MNK at end-game is loved, a PLD, WAR and NIN are tanks and needed. DRKs are for Stun, DRGs are good vs flying enemies, and SAMs are good for skillchain, in the end its the party situation that decides the melee. Its totally up to you.

I hear the ranger does more damage than the black mage in Final Fantasy XI. I guess I could give that class a shot once I meet the requirements. I'm not used to the whole ranged attack deal. I've never been an archer before, except for that one time I played Gauntlet at the arcade.
RNG deal most dmg, but they use expendibles like arrows and the sort. So your going to have to buy stacks of updated and powerful arrows and gear to make use of your RNG.
