Definitely Eminem and Sting at the top of my lists.
Perhaps one of the most underappreciated singer-songwriter of all time, John Denver. Only by understanding his music can you truly realize the contribution he made to the world. Another person on the top of my list has to be Barry Manilow. He is often criticized, though I'm not sure why, as his ability to write music for singing is second to none. He didn't write his lyrics, but the instrumentation to his songs is perhaps the best part.
Graham Coxon, Bic Runga, and Richard Carpenter.
Alex Wesselsky, Tom V.K., Erik Fisch, Georgij Alexandrowitsch Makazaria and Gary wheeler.
Jem is currently my new obscure favorite singer-songwriter I choose to promote.
