About flags.
Official size will be kept to 150 width x 100 height, like the examples in this thread. I want to set some guidelines about flags. I want them simple and neat. Nothing too complicated. Have you noticed every real country flags? Not too many colors, simplified symbols, any are bright and colorful. Some are not, but that's cool. Anyway, follow those guidelines when making your country flag. You may include symbols and the most colors I can allow for your flag is 10. Also, please avoid using airbrush, and be original
Now for those examples...
Bad Examples of flag designs.

Reason: The symbol is too complicated, and unoriginal.

Reason: Even though it's looks simple, a symbols needs to have minimal number of colors.
Good Examples...

Reason: It's simple, and kept to a minimal number of colors for the design.

Reason: Also simple and neat flag design.
You do not have to use these examples on designing your flags, but please keep in mind that 150 width x 100 height is the official size for flags. You may have a smaller size fllag. Anything larger than 150 px in width, or 100 px in height are not allowed.
-
Are triangle flags allowed, if they're within the 150x100 dimension bounding box? :p What about other weird shapes, like circles? :D
-
Triangles, and Squares are the only other shapes allowed.
100 height x 150 width is the official standard for flags, but flags can be any width and can be under 100 pxl in height.

Hows this for Joelonia's flag?
-
Please use your instinction whether your flag is acceptable to the standards. If it needs work, I'll just remove the flag and tell you to work a little more on it. :P
-
I'm curious, but why this kind of flag-standardisation? In the real world, flags are of myriad shape and size.
Don't take me wrong, I agree with your other points (those are basically the guidelines for all heraldry - it should be simple, and easily recognisable), but the regulation of size is just weird. Why should a nation have a flag in the first place? You could have banners, like the Romans. Or you could have a Japanese-style high-flag.
EDIT:
On a side-note, probably the best vexicological site in the world.
-
ok, I'll lift the width limit. The height should stay 100 px max, just in case anyone want to stick their flag in their signature.
-
Ah, you meant signatures! Now I see. Of course, flags in signatures should be kept within the allowed sig-parameters.
I might post larger flags, but I will keep sure that there is always a smaller one to be used.

Oh, and one more thing:
One of the most important rules in heraldry - regardless if it western japanese - are the Rules of Tincture. In West it means colours can only be put on others if they are different sorts, colour and metal. Metals are silver (white) and gold (yellow), and the colours are red (sanguine), black, blue, green... some other colours I don't remember, and occasionally purple and brown. You shouldn't really put metals on metals or colours on colours but pfft that. I don't know the rules of tincture in japanese heraldry, but I bet there are some.
This is because colours should be as discernible as possible. This also why Joel's flag:

is not so good. You can't recognise it easy, because the colours are too dark. Maybe you can make the red more clear.
