Xenogears is indeed an amazing, amazing game. I can almost guarantee you'll like it. A lot.
They're related, yes, though the close similarities probably won't really start showing up until later in the Xenosaga series.
chaos: XG is supposed to be part 5 of the series, and is definetly related to XS.
Rubedo: Both of them are best RPG's ever. Well, the whole series anyway... Don't make me pick!
