How so?
Different cultures have different approaches to team unity, honesty and what's "right".
I'm not surprised at something like this happening; playing with the NBA would undoubtedly influence someone from a conservative socialist background, and their compatriots might not like some of that influence. I don't feel particularly speechless, though.
what he said, I think...
Nothing surprises me coming from the chinese goverment, the biggest bunch of hypocrites ever.
Just get the worse of authoritarian socialism and the worse of capitalism, pack it up and...voila, the Chinese system.

Face it. China knows no different from Communism. The government has brainwashed their people into believing whatever em, crap, they spew, so they would seriously not be backing of a democratic government.
A case of one saying tomate-o whereas another says tomahto.
What bothers me about this article is how the Chinese can be so damn ignorant, claiming Yao Ming has become too American by "blasting" his teammates. I mean, it's only sports...and I'm sure there's plenty of Chinese players on different sports team saying each of their team members weren't prepared to play their game.
I still fail how to see this as American by speaking your mind. Maybe the Chinese don't like freedom of speech.
Of course they don't, they're a virtual dictatorship.
Eeeerm...I don't think all the chinese really believe this guy is some kind of traitor. I mean, don't assume they follow the same ideas as their goverment.
I think their point of view was more like "say whatever you say, no matter how stupid and ignorant you are, and that is how yanks are". Well, it makes more sense like that. Most authoritarians believe freedom of expression harms because "instead of a country we have a social chaos" (Well, so said Spanish fascists).Quote:

Sport and politics are not good bedfellows in any country. This type of outburst has happened before. When a country expected to win a game or do well in a tournament loses, they look for a scapegoat, thats all the guy is a scapegoat. This will blow over.
It's similar to what happened after the 2002 World Cup in France when Korea knocked out Italy. Park Ji Sung of Italian club Perugia and the Korean centre forward who scored the winning goal was sacked by the Perugia chairman who accused him of having no loyalty to a country that has done so much for him.
Utter rubbish.
Yes, the Chinese government is evil. I guess Chinese people should know better than to anger the Thought Police.
That's dictatorship for you.
It's not uncommon for international teams to even prohibit their players from talking to the press without authorization. Don't look so suprised.
I can understand where they're coming from, but I disagree in how they treated the situation. I don't believe sports should be governed by the same hush-up mentality as politics is over there.
Wow...the degree of similarity that the US government is starting to show to that of China's is uncanny.
