Anti-terror laws
What do you think about the new anti-terror laws being introduced in the UK ? It's really controversial stuff - if implemented , suspected terrorists would be thrown in jail without trial.
To some , it's an outrageous violation of basic human rights , but I think that , if MI5 get their facts right , it'll go a long way to protecting thousands of innocent people.

Its stupid, I was hoping the Queen would take action but alas after 36 hours the Lord gave in to the commons. Its a violation of rights and a stupid ego law, it should never of been passed.

i've already made a topic which crosses over with this one so i'll make this quick.
the law as it stands only allows house arrest and does not allow people to be thrown in jail. but this still greatly inexcusable, the burden of prove is not as high as it should be and no where near the normal necessary for arrest by poice, and if you have so little evidence on what basis do you arrest someone? the charges do not need to be read to the person either, so we have a situation which allows people to be imprisoned in their own home with little evidence and for an indefinite period.
sure if all the people rounded up on this basis were really terrorists then by all means this law would be legal and just. but there is no way to do that. british intelligence is far from perfect look at the birmingham 6 for instance all imprisoned for life (confessed under a lot of duress and the removal of one man's teeth) they were arrested under similar laws but were innocent. mozzam begg is another one (sorry for using his name so often) but was held for 3 years in quantanamo bay in which time british intelligence officers saw him and agreed he was a major threat.
intelligence can never be relied on to arrest people and hold them without trial. you've got to ask yourself one question about these laws if they were used against me would it be fair? and the answer surely has to be no.
al qaeda are not a major threat to humanity, or this nation, these are not times of great need when rights should taken away from innocent people, we are not near defeat. we were millions of times closer to defeat in 1942 and did not seek out this kind of law. why should a very small terrorist organisation cause this country so much fear and allow my government to take away my basic rights of a judicial trial?
