Squaresoft and Enix are both Japanese companies, and thus SquareEnix is Japanese. I have no idea where your friend got Chinese but she's dead wrong.
It's Japanese.
Although it seems to me that I read that square had south-east asia in mind when they designed a lot of the game (or was it somewhere else) but that still wouldn't be China.
That being said, I don't think China releases a lot of video games. being so paranoid about the rest of the world and stuff.
If you mean what it's based on -- I'd say it's Thai or something. The pictures I've seen of Thailand look pretty close. The company is Japanese so in that sense it's japanese.
The whole tropical, hydrocentric setting is based on Okinawa, which is part of Japan.
Okinawa was once a vastly powerful trading empire.
But I've never heard okinawans refer to people as brudda. :D
I think people thought it was Chinese or Thai becos of it's tropical setting. But that's actually Okinawa, a warm island in Southern Japan.
I think I read somewhere that the name Yuna is also some sort of Okinawa n name for hibiscus flower. Hence the patterns in her dress.
Japanese dammit..
umm okinawa , isnt that the japanese place they invented armagedon around 1944? , maybe thats why the love for spells like nova and ultima etc lol
sorry i know.. couldnt resist :)
Inventing armageddon in 1944?
