British Election

It's 1am time for the first few results of the british election.

I didn't vote way to busy with my dissertation i would of gone tory though.


Average swing of 5 % away from labour mostly to lib dems due to the factor of the iraq war. If it stays this way labour will have it's majority cut to only 40 MPs the end for Blair. If the swing reaches 6.2% we get a hung parliment. only 23 out of 642 seats in at the moment though so who's to judge

Labour 31 MP's
Lib Dems 3 Mp's
Conservative 1 MP
Scotish national party 1 MP


Old fighting prescott (deputy prime minister, if tony blair dies he's in control)just got relected, he may be labour but i like him.

glad to see that no americans care.

I care but it's not like much has come out yet.

I'm keeping watch.

It's 25 past three and Labour seems to be cruising towards a third term, admittedly taking a battering while they're at it. It's currently at 285/94/35. Labour not gaining any new seats. The Lib Dems are taking seats off of Labour, but are also losing several to the Tories, which is a shame.

Latest forecast was for a Labour majority of around ~70.

Labour win, we knew this would happen

But they have had there majority halved and tony blair is in a weak position now to attacks from his rebel backbenchers.

No surprises this time, huh? Just that it won't be a landslide win like the LAST two times, I guess. Was it two times? :(

Results of "Big 3":
Labour: 353 seats, 36% of the vote.
Conservatives: 196 seats, 33% of the vote. (The party I support and voted for)
Liberal Democrats: 60 seats, 22% of the vote.

Beforehand, all the media was blaring out (No pun intended) that Labour would dominate and that the Conservatives would stand no chance. Look at the percentages. It's a 3% difference. I believed Labour would win so I'm not annoyed about that, I'm annoyed about the 3% difference. It's so close. But due to media propaganda, we're stuck with Blair for 5 more years. Thank you very much, BBC, but I'll come onto that in a minute.

I find it funny that 3% of the country have 156 MPs to represent them. Damn you First Past the Post system. Also HURRAY that the Lib Dems didn't do as well as our dear propaganda spouting friends said they would.

Why the Conservatives didn't get that magic 3% more which would have swung many seats (Including my own constituency):
- BBC are so pro-Labour and pro-Lib Dem it makes me want to burn down television centre. No, I'm not exaggerating. I did my English Language coursework on how the BBC treat different parties, with types of question, amount of time they spoke/interviewer spoke, etc, and there's a clear anti-Conservative bias.
- The Liberal Democrats and a lot of their voters. Most people who voted for the Lib Dems voted for them because they were neither Conservative or Labour (polls say so). They don't even know their policies. It is idiotic to vote for something if you don't know the policies, in my personal opinion. If you want Labour out, vote Conservative because it's the lesser of two evils or something. But when the Lib Dems don't even campaign on their policies, and instead going around campaigning that they're the REAL ALTERNATIVE then it's no wonder...
- The media treating the Lib Dems like they are as big as the Conservatives or Labour. They're not. There is no "Big 3." It's a "Big 2." Less than one in four people want the Lib Dems. That says it all. And Charles Kennedy claiming that the Lib Dems would replace the Conservatives as the second party? Yeah, OK Charles, whatever you say. :rolleyes2
- Predictions that Labour would win by a mile. Yeah, 3% is a lot! This discouraged many people from voting considering the election to be a foregone conclusion, when clearly their votes could have swung it.

Now that Labour and Blair are back in power, here's what we can look forward to:
- Nothing.

But I'm not annoyed because they won, like I said. I genuinely believed the media when they said the Conservatives wouldn't win. But 3%? We've been played like fools. Utter fools.

Anyway, I'll leave you with the final thought that nearly all of my Politics class (ie, people who actually know about politics) voted Conservative. :D

It's 5. He can choose to hold an election at any time in the next 5 years. He chose now because a major problem might happen for Labour in the next year, causing them to lose.

yeah. i was really shocked that labour won again. i really thought it would be the tories. and lib dems close behind.
i actually voted so i do feel good about it. :) but the party i voted didn't win....
i think that lib dems gained 7 seats (wow...........) and labour got like 80 or something. they got 161 last time.
but my politics is a bit hazy so not too sure....
i'm disapointed with it.
one thing that annoys me is that some people voted labour purely on the fact that they always have done or they say its the working class party....maybe years ago but not now.

yes i don't know much about politics but bog off.
i didn't vote conservatives as
1. i come from a poor family. if they're anything like last time (sorry for using maggie as a comparison) we're basically going to die. my dad earns pratically nothing.
2. i didn't want to
3. yes lib dems are diffent and small but i agree with some of the stuff they say like the student thing (yes the new stuff won't effect me but what about others?? my brother cannot afford to go to uni if the bloody fees are £3000. seen as my dad earns £5500 a year)
4. bloody lesser of two evils my bum. they're both the same.
5. the war thing. they both lied about it. at least lib dems stood by what they said and told the truth
6. just because i don't want labour in dosn't mean i vote for conservative.

yes i'm a bit of a retard when it comes to this but i still know enough to know that both conservative and labour are as bad as eachother

I really think a major problem will happen. The war in Iraq is getting way too out of hand, something will spark off in the next 5 years, methinks.

I think its a pretty sorry indictment on the Tories that the Labour party could be so unpopular, and yet still win by a large margin. I wanted the Lib Dems to do better than they did - admittedly they did overturn a 9000 vote Labour majority to take my constituency. And that's not just because of Iraq. It's was a pretty clear choice for me: Labour are no longer trustworthy, and the Conservatives are playing on the fears and phobias of the British people.

Plus, I'd never be caught dead supporting the Conservatives.

On the other hand, however, a hung parliament might have been interesting, as it would have forced Labour to side with the Lib Dems.

In my humble and stupid opinion, I don't like the Lib Dems much. They seem way too idealistic. From what I can remember reading *coughNOTALOTcough* they want free...almost everything. Free medicals? Free tuition? Free dental? And they're way too vague about exactly they want.

But then, the way I see it, New labour were kinda vague too. Conservatives were the ones who actually gave approximate figures etc etc. But I percieve it as NL and C having pretty much similar policies on almost everything except Iraq.

Correct me, tell me that I'm totally screwed up. :) But don't be mean to me because it's not my fault I'm stupid! :( :D

Conservative should of won I think, as I think Labour are just liars, and also because of the war thing. I'm glad that Conservative run our area anyway. :D
