Odd spacing in creating table tags

Yeah, so I was making a table in my sig, and in Preview Sig it keeps putting in a nasty gap between some text and the start of the table. Like, well, check it out.

< table >< tr >< td >< b >The Member< /b >< td >< b >Running for Ciddies< /b >< /tr >

edit again: I changed it so the whole sig is a text table, i.e.
< table >< tr >< td >The Gang are:< /tr >
< tr >< td >< b >The Member< /b >< td >< b >Running for Ciddies< /b >< /tr >

Still spaced out, as you can see. Why?

edit x3: I took it out of my sig to see if it works in a general post.

Didn't work. ;_;

Try putting everything on one line, vB is lame with tables and likes to spread them out with extra line breaks like that :p

In fact, it takes all the manual cr-lf (not made by the <br> tag and puts them all above the table.
