Im talking about FF2. What was the point in going to the bother of getting this magic and even making into a part of the storyline. It suX. Is my copy of FF2 defective? Am I really the only one whos ULTIMATE magic (ULTIMA) isnt all that ULTIMATE?

Jesus crisis. Its a game. And ultima is effective is your characters mag power and ultimas magic power is actually good. Its the best magic in the game, imo.

If you want Ultima to get stronger, you must level it up. Constantly use it to get it stronger and give it to the character that has high Magic power
I know what you mean. Ultima isn't very powerful at all unless you really power it up. Its the best spell, but its pretty annoying. All I needed to get to the end was the blood sword, so i think I only leveled Ultima up to level 7.

It's all there. Ultima is the best spell in my game by far.
A comparison:

And these were the stats I had at the time:

DkKnight's stats can be found HERE.
I rest my case.
Do you not like Guy or something?
its not that powerful in my game either. i've read that u need it to beat the emperor at the end, but since it sucks in my game, i was never able to beat him. its at level 10, and i still only do about 300 damage with it :frust: :irked: :grumble:
That hacked state was from a while ago when I was comparing a white caster and a black caster. Lionheart's stats are only that high because the first fight just uses Frioniel's stats and equipment for Lionheart. Since it takes a few minutes to get everyone's stats that high I didn't really feel like bothering with Guy's as I wasn't going to use him anyway. Oddly enough, that was also when I found out what happens when you win that initial fight (the game proceeds as usual), and when you take damage when you HP is 9999 (it rolls over to A098).
ULTIMA works differently than every other spell. It's based on:
Spell Base Damage [SBD] <- Ultima's Base Damage is 96
Spell Level [SLV]
All Skill/Spell Levels [ASL]
[DAMAGE] = (SBD + ASL) * SLV
Now then, each single Skill/Spell level is counted seperately. If you have 16
spells that are all Level 16, and all your weapons are at Level 16, you would
count 16+16+16+16+16+16+16+16+16+16+16+16+16+16+16+16+16+16+16+16+16+16+16+16
or 16*24. That is your ASL number. Plug in everything else and you get the
following equation:
[DAMAGE] = (96 + 384) * 16
Your total damage is 7680. Considering the next most powerful spell can only
do 2408 damage, Ultima can be pretty damn powerful.

Magaso: If that's true, does that mean Ultima has nothing to do with the caster's stats, and you should just give it to the one that has the highest weapon and spell levels?
As was established in the other forum, it appears as though the actual calculation of damage changed somewhat from the NES version to DoS. While it's been confirmed that the spell's damage is based on that factor in the recent versions, the older one proved to be a bit more...odd. I tested it with maxed spells/stats with quite rubbish results.
This is definitely not the case on the FC version, I tested it out yesterday and the damage only DROPPED when I added more spells at level 16. I tried using maxed out weapon skills too and that didn't work either.
Holy at a similiar level does more damage by the same person. Still I would rather just go to mysidia witgh the ship and buy holy than do like 5 more dungeons just to get ultima. Why did Minwu have to Die!
