Ditto. Though I originally had Fighter, Thief, Black Mage and Red Mage, I've been told that White Mage is handier than Red, as s/he can cast more powerful spells later on in the game.Quote:

My favorite party is Fi/Th/BB/Rm. All strong characters and no weak and useless Wh/Bm. The best party though would have to be either 4 Fighters or 3 Fighters and a Red Mage.
I dunno why so many people like Fi/Th/Wm/Bm the best.
Mine's usually 2 fighters, 1 black mage, and 1 white mage
My favorite party is 8-Bit style, Fighter/Blackmage/Thief/Redmage.
The best party really depends on who you are, because we are all of different skill levels and all have different playing styles. Myself, I'm not much for casting magic on any RPG, especially not this one where your spell casting is so limited. Of course, I do use magic and there are some very useful spells, but all in all I am more of a "pummel the enemy to death" sort of player. As such, here are a few of my favorite combinations:
Black Belt x 4 - This party is the ultimate fighting machine. If you can get past 12 (which is where I feel they really start to hold their own in battle), the last HALF of the game will pose little threat to you.
Red Mage x 4 - I hear so many bad things about the Red Mage because they are not as strong warriors as the Fighter nor as good Mages as the Black and White, but that is what is wonderful about the Red Mage. When you need to conserve MP, the Black Mage becomes useless. Some monsters can really only be harmed by magic, rendering the Fighter useless. In either situation, the Red Mage is STILL USEFUL! With access to a decent selection of swords, and with the greatest spell in the game available to them (FAST, which is a Black Belt's wet dream), how can you go wrong by choosing the Red instead of White or Black? Sure, no NUKE or LIF2, but who really needs those by the time you hit the end of the game?
Black Belt x2, Red Mage x 2 - FAST x 2 = Quick death to all!
Fighter, Black Belt, Red Mage, White Mage - And for those of you who like variety, this is the best you'll get out of me. It has been years and years since the Thief or Black Mage has ever been in my group. I have no need for either of them, ever.
I would rather take a party of four elderly groundhogs. :pQuote:

My most recent playthroughs have been Fi, Fi, Fi, WM and Ni, WM, BM, BM. Both were good. I always love the Fi, Fi, WM BM though.
