are there any factors involved in the success rate of Steal?
Steal from behind, and when the monster is attacking, you'll have a better chance at it.
Where did you hear that?
It depends on the mob, some mobs like beastmen or stuff have items to be stolen from. However things like Crawlers have nothing to be stolen so its moot to even try. Steal +1 items help success rate. So far no one has a definite idea on how steal works. Its probably related to the stat of the ability(aka AGI for a green ability or DEX for purple), however that might also not be the case as Sneak Attack is White(CHR)? Moon phase might also be a factor, however so far no one has any concrete proof as to how Steal works. So at the moment lets just say its completely random.
I would think the mob you fight is more a factor than anything, like Mug, if you mug a pugil its not dropping gil, but if you mug an Orc blaow some gil.
