I thought the terrorist threat was dying down again in England...obviously not.
So that's England's three biggest cities (London, Birmingham and Manchester) that have been threatened one way or another by terrorism. Will it ever end...
Still, good to see the situation has been sorted out.

there's very little proof he was a terrorist. could just have been a confused tourist.
nice to see the police didn't feel the urge to pin him down and empty 8 shots into his skull though which makes a change.
terrorism will always be here. it's been here since osama had his big idea about attacking the west after being thrown out of suadi. but now with the irritation of the arab world it's just a bihher threat. more people are willing to sign up. but it doesn't all come at once.
you'll get a small group like those on the 7th of july. (the one two weeks later was a rare protest folllow up which i've never heard of occuring before). then the police will crack down. willing to shoot anyone who looks suspicious and the government will take away certain rights using this as an excuse. and that makes people feel all protected but it accomplishes nothing and it will happen again.
wonder why the ira went on so long? terrorism is not defeatable. there is not one major organisation that has ever been stopped through forceful actio. the ira was stopped with words.

What? I'm sorry, but anybody who sincerely believes the IRA is done is being very naive. The IRA went on for so long because the British government released half of them from prison and raised the other half to a position of legal and recognized government. To you Americans: Imagine that ten years down the line you put Bin Laden in Congress. That'd be pretty analogous to this.
well it turns out he wasn't a terrorist. his suitcase had clothes, paper work and his passport in it. and he has been detained. but not under the terrorist act. and he hasn't beem arrested. he has been detained under the mental health act.
so it turns out he was a random nutter not a terrorist. see? now we can all feel safer.
milf well since the ira hasn't planted a bomb in god knows how long and the uosurge in violence in ireland in fact has been the by the loyalists. they are pretty much done. they got what they asked for and ended it. a lack of dead bodies in the street is proof.

POWs were released only AFTER the peace agreement was signed and theiy were POWs from BOTH, yes BOTH sides of the fence. No one here thinks the 'IRA are done for' simply because their end was not a result of desperation therefore the fatal words 'done for' do not apply. They have disbanded and Sinn Fein are as a legitimate party here as any other. They are the second biggest in Northern Ireland. As for you not knowing one person from Northern Ireland who thinks they want peace and have layed down their arms, is that because you don't KNOW anyone from Northern Ireland? Or is it because you only know people from the opposite end of the political spectrum that suits their own beliefs to demonise the process itself.

The fact remains there is peace and talking worked. The biggest test came recently when the Loyalists basically turned Belfast into a no-go area where Catholics were burnt out, police shot at & car hijacked. They never moved.
Yet again I meet another blind Englishman believing their forces were the beacon of light against the bloody evil Fenians of Ireland, and yet again I am not surprised this war lasted so long.
Unless you know the truth and seen things from every side you have zero right to have your comments taken seriously. The IRA did a lot of terrible things, it's important to remember there were other parties with bloody hands too, one was your great and Loyal British Army, Irish history is soaked in the blood of it's victims.
They were raised to a position of legitimate government. That's a damned big step, even if they've not achieved their goal yet.Quote:
