cmon i need some help

hey i bought ff7 for pc ages ago now and i got up to the part where you have just killed dyne and are about to start the chocobo race and when the screen goes blank it stays blank and says windows has encountered an error...and before you say it, i have all the requirments neened for the game to function and i got windows xp and its not viruses or anything like that. so im stumped i just wanted to know if this has happened to anyone else:confused:

Final Fantasy VII doesn't work with Windows XP properly. You need to download the patch to fix this problem. The patch can be found here.
