I've beaten Omega, beaten Ultimecia, yet...

I still don't get it, why did Ultimecia want to compress time?

and it was Ultimecia that passed her powers to Edea, how? Ultimecia is from the future!!

I just don't get it!! can someone explain it to me :)

i dont know the answer to the 1st question but for the second one, dr odine developed a machine resembling ellones brain wave/patterns which was further devloped by the time of ultimicia. She probably used it to send back her wave patterns into the past into a potential target, therefore Edea, so that she could change the past resulting in Edea pasting her power onto Rinoa, hence forming this possible time loop, or continuum...Blah blah blah....

As to the first, we can really only speculate. She had her reasons, I'm sure. It's a subject for fanfiction more than hard theories.

For the second, it's simple--we can easily assume that the SeeDs weren't the only one who had the possibility to become lost in or travel through time. Ultimecia drifted through time, and found Edea--maybe she followed Squall, maybe it was destined, whatever, but she did the same thing the heroes did. Then, she passed on her powers.

In my opinion, that's the only reason she could use Junction Machine Ellone to pass herself to Edea and later Rinoa, actually, but that's another thread.

the only reason we get: "Vat good will it do for ze sorceress to compress time?
There may be many reasons, but it doesn't matter."

Well gee thanks Square. Even when you take on Ultimecia at the end she doesn't
really make a lot of sense. This is what set me thinking about her identity
and I have covered that in the "Theories" section of the FAQ.

If you are interested why she wanted to take over the power of all sorceresses, then one possible reason is that she wanted to attain absolute power....

I'd hardly say that Ultimecia's motivations are the 'most important thing' (bar love story, of course) in the game. There are all sorts of reasons that we can consider--absolute power, sure, but that lends itself to why she thinks she needs it. Hearing her dialogue actually makes it interesting to think about what the world must have been like in her time, and why she felt she needed to do what she did. Aside from that she was probably insane, of course.

But maybe not knowing is part of things. Again, this is speculation, but maybe we can look at the similarities between this and between fighting when they thought it was their Matron, and even Squall's thoughts to Irvine at Deling City. SeeD exists to fight the Sorceress. That's true. They went, and they killed a woman (boss fight aside, the reality is that they intended to kill her) to stop what she was doing. Would it have maybe been helpful to know why she wanted to do it?

Sure.

Was it necessary? Not really. That's what SeeD is. They aren't really taught to need to know why, just that it needs to be done. Whether that's a good thing or a bad thing, it's up to the observer, but SeeD was never painted, as far as I know, as a group of shining crusaders.

Anyway, the answer isn't refering to your post and I just added it to make it more precise just in case anyone might be interested in the motivations or discuss about it...........

Whether it is important depends on how one look at the game......

Why would that make her happy particularly?

because she had a hatred toward SeeD
so exterminating them would satisfy her

I bet she doesn't. Sh's just ohunded by them because they don'yt understand them and really she just wants them all to be her friends but doesn't see how she can because they're always coming after her. So on the outside she's angry and destructive, but on the inside she's crying, and the welling in her chest hurts more than their gunblades and cruel fists ever will, because she knows she's going to lose...HAS to lose... but just wishes things could have been different.

this is one reason why I love FF7 more than FF8, everything kinda made sense in FF7..

We already know all witches are hunted and went into hiding. It's no differnt in the future. When she is born, she is hated and abused, and doesn't know why. She's only like... 5... "Leave me alone, I havn't done anything :(" she'd be saying.

So when she grows up and becomes more powerfull, she seeks to remove SeeD and all those that was mean to her.

Some key points include how she says to Squall "so...you're the legendary SeeD member Squall..." And he's all like :confused: because he's only just joined, and is the newbie rank. But in her time, in her history books, he's the legendary member.
