Too many genres

There are way too many genres of rock these days. People over-classify and pigeonhole everything. Apart from destroying the soul of the act of musical creation, it's also annoying.
This is most apparent in metal. Metal fans over-classify absolutely everything. I'm fine with things like Death Metal, Black Metal, Thrash Metal and Speed Metal, they're all pefectly acceptable genres, but all this 'Post-black metal', 'Norwegian black death metal' and 'post new doom blood ultra kill death smash moise metal' crap is just crazy.
Really, people do it so they can stroke their inflated egos- "Oh, I like post-pre-post-post-eastern-black metal. That means I'm better than you!" It's all those weird and random denominations of christianity in America- reformed-new-orthodox-unreformed-neo-methodanlicanutheranaptistesbytereanism. (No offence meant to any methodanlicanutheranaptistesbytereanists present).

I agree, either way you slice it, its heavy metal.

This basically sums it up (although the foucs is more on hip-hop than metal). Jutst look at the picture. The rests doesn't really apply. OK, so it doesn't sum it up, but it's funny.

... Post-black is a perfectly valid genre, and I don't care if you will not go and listen to the bands I posted for them to realize that it is one or not, but >_> who cares. I know it is real, so that is all that matters.

Anyways, I actually do agree that some genres are stretching it too far, math metal (wtf) techcore, etc. Eh.

Heavy metal goes without saying, obviously. I was talking about all these weird new genres.
