OK, I need serious help with FF2j

i am going to kill myself. wandering around under the first town where the strong enemies are, i got into a fight with 2 mantises, and i accidentally hit save state. i haven't been saving the game normally, just save state, so when i die, i go back to nothing. (and honestly, i am not one to abuse save state.) is there any way at all i can put in a game genie code or mess with the hex to get myself out of this fight? i can't run away, and i'm killed within two turns. any help is greatly appreciated.
