I'm still working on the final dungeon, so I've not gotten that far.
I had originally read that you could only fight the final boss of the Lunar Ruins if you had all nine Grimoires, but Zeromus EG is accessible even if you have no Grimoires.
But no, the Grimoires really have no other purpose. Use them on Zeromus before using a Crystal to defeat him before he can transform, or use them on Zeromus EG to inflict various effects on him.
