So, does this mean Final Fantasy X and X-2 are actually, in some minor way, connected to Final Fantasy VII?
I only say this because Shinra tells you in Chapter 5, I think, something along the line of draining the world of its' energy and get a new source of power...and whatever. I read one place how this could fit, but it couldn't be the same world, ie Spira.
this makes a lot of references to FF7 but it is not related. FFs are never joint or related apart from possibly FF3 and 8 because of the map similaritys it could be a different time period but i think sqare just gave ff8 a lot of FF3 references like hyne and the clock hands in ultimecias castle pointing at 3 and 8. so this is similar to that and they just gave it similaritys like in other FFs.
Maybe its an easter egg?
I guess they are similar, but why would he state EXACTLY what the corp. Shinra does. Also, it would make sense since Cid(FF7) says that there were always rockets and other machinery, just barried and recently discovered, and materia-dress spheres. The only thing that isn't the same would be the races, except Aeris does have an "ancient" bloodline...could mean many things.
the ancients could come from the Yevon Summoners :D
It all seems to fit. Only question is, what about the differences, such as the fiend system, and the sending? Materia? Nah.
Any and all theories about the worlds of FF being connected really bugs me.
One point to consider is that when a fiend in X dies, they erupt into a pyrefly cloud, in VII monsters just turn red and fade. From this, it can be deduced that X is not related to any other FF (except X-2 obviously) simply because the mechanics of the world are different.
Other things to consider, where are the Ronso, Guado, Hypello etc. They can't just have gone extinct? They survived for a thousand years against Sin so it would be very hard for all three races to die out (however, it could be argued that the Ronso evolved into the Nanaki race).
Also consider this, the farplane, yes according to Shinra, is full of energy, enough to power hundreds of cities like Zanarkand, and this is the ONLY valid point that I consider in this theory, but the farplane is farely benign. It does not help nor hinder the planet, yet the lifeforce can be seen to actively defend Planet.
This is my opinion, and if anyone has any corrections, please, prove me wrong...

This would make sense seeing out Aeris could be a descendent of Summoners or Guado. In the end though, I think this whole debate is based upon Farplane = Lifestream (and possibly the brat Shinra mentioning the Farplane's energy)...
Farplane: Benign. People can visit. Full of pyreflies.
Pyreflies: A form of matter/energy that exists within everything. Found throughout Spira, but mostly found in the Farplane.
Lifestream (ok, my understanding of this is poor, but here goes): Bevevolant, ie, actively help to look after the planet. One body of energy/matter. Toxic/fatal to come into contact with
They are similar, materia condenses out of mako from the lifestream, and spheres condense out of pyreflies. They exist within everything.
Disregarding the death of enemies, they interact with the world differently. In X, Summons are only possible with Fayth, whose dreams are formed out of pyreflies, whereas in VII, Summons are just like any other materia. Though it can be argued that summon materia can be formed from the condensation of fayth pyreflies...
Humph. I think there are too many variables. There are "could be" or "what if" but when you boil it down...it just ends up being one fans' belief vs. another...there just isn't a clear cut answer. LAME
