Standard Metal(thrash) vs New Metal(nu-metal, hardcore, and all the new metal genres)
-
Nu-metal is really crappy, but in general I like the newer kinds of metal more than thrash and heavy Metal. I don't really know what you mean by "new", but death metal is great, non-tr00 black metal is great, industrial metal is great, folk metal is great and so is symphonic metal. Although power metal and most progressive metal (I love progressive death though) is just horrible. I am aware that folk/symphonic/industrial metal are more like sub-genres of any other metal genre and should maybe not be counted as individual metal genres. Black and death metal aren't that new genres either. Meh, screw it. I don't think anything.
-
I wouldn't put Opeth & In Flames with Slipknot or SOAD, but I have to vote older because most of the other is just crap. Opeth & In Flames are love though.
There are certain genres that are absolutely fantastic of the second option, but sadly most of them don't get the recognition they deserve.

Please DON'T take "classification of the bands" so seriously. I just really wanted to compare bands like MetallicA, Iron Maiden, MegadetH, Slayer, etc. (80s) with the newer bands like Opeth, In Flames, Slipknot, And SOAD.

You know, such a comparison would be quite hard as non of the newer bands you listed have anything in common.

There is some hearable power metal, but in general I just can't stand it. I particulary hate the vocals.

Megadeth is the best band in this thread.Nuff said.
-
Hardcore isn't a metal offshoot, it is a punk offshoot.

I'll smurfing take it as seriously as I please to.
You mentioned two bands that are not even metal, Slipknot and SOAD, anyways.

Oooh. Well you had better like Kamelot =P
-
I do like Kamelot. It's one of the better power metal bands I've come across.
-
Modern Metal, lol, fail.
The old stuff, The Big 4 (Metallica, Megadeth,Slayer and Anthrax), Iron Maiden, Black Sabbath, Deep Purple and legends such as WASP totally kill the crap you get these days, stuff like Poprock, boring metal, christ damn I could sleep through that stuff.
-
Aye, the older stuff has a lot more going for it. Talent, mainly, and the odd bit of skill.
-
I mean Dave Mustaine all by himself is more metal than all the new metal bands put togethe.
-
Hah. No.
They had the honor of being some of the first (and alot are good, don't get me wrong), nothing more than that. Modern metal bands like: Solefald, Age of Silence, Alchemist, Sturmgeist, Agalloch, Mirrorthrone, Opera IX, Garden of Shadows, Lykathea Aflame, Wormed, Psycroptic, and Transcending Bizarre are more talented than most bands to have ever come out of the early metal scene. They are much more original as well.
People that slam the new metal scene know nothing of metal, as there are bands that DWARF the greatness of classics.

dont ever call standard metal or Iron Maiden thrash again you heathen :choc:
