Startup Problems
First off I'd like to profusely thank any one who can help me with this. I recently purchased FF7 for pc and i've installed it and updated it with the XP patch (yes i'm running XP), but when ever i start the game up it just freezes. I can't see my cursor and in order to exit the game i have to ctrl alt del out. Has any one else experienced this problem? Like i said before, any help would be much appriciated! thank you!

I hope you've run the configuration-utility, hmm? :) What graphics card are you using/have you set in the config? Sound card? I've run it on XP myself (I won't swear on it, but I'm not sure I had the XP-patch at the time - I might very well be wrong as I revel in the mere thought of seeing my Voodoo 2 at work these days), and I don't believe I had that problem.
Have you installed the XP-patch as recommended? I don't remember the exact instructions, but I have a feeling there was some patching involved before you could XP-ise it.
[Edit] On second thought, maybe you should take this to Qhimm's forum. (http://www.qhimm.com)

Try not running it at full resolution at first. Also, there are a couple videos that play before you get the option to do anything. Make sure you can play the videos fine (try opening them from the CD directly). If that doesn't work, uninstall, and reinstall. What Operating System are you using? Did you remember to install DirectX? And are your discs all in good shape?

Video games are so much easier to play on home video game systems. I don't even bother much in trying to play games on computers anymore. It can be a big hassle to get things started up and sitting at a computer chair playing a game isn't nearly as comfortable of setting as relaxing in front of a ps2 or xbox is (or whatever game system you own).
All I use computers for anymore is the internet.

PC
I also have FF7 for the pc. mine was in a right mess, all the movies were upside down, example, when cloud should fall down into the church on mine everything was upside down so he fell up! it stalled at the chocobo race, EVERY TIME.
heres what i did, i re-installed it but using minimum installation then, when you have the icon on your desktop i right clicked it and went into properties, then click the tab which says conpatability and i set it to win 95, what the game was made for.
to fix teh chocobo i snooped on the net for a patch which i think i got from download.com that fixed everything.

Try not installing the XP patch. I haven't installed any patches yet, and my game runs fine. I am anticipating having to install the Chocobo patch to get through the races, but the rest of the game works with no patches or running mode modifications at all. Maybe my computer just really likes me, though...

I've been looking all overfor this information, and figured you guys might have some insight.
I've been trying to install FF7 on my Win2000 machine, and the installation program crashes. All of the information I've found online about using patches and compatibility modes has been for once the game has already been installed.
Do you have any suggestions?
- I don't have a spare machine to make a win98 box (doh).
- I don't have a ps2/ps3, and it's not really an option i'd like. (Even though I know that would be the guaranteed way to get it working. ;))
I'm thinking I might be able to copy the installation CD to disk and be able to patch that ... but I'm highly skeptical. At this point, I might end up seeing if I can install it on Virtual PC (which means I have to find my Win 98 install media ...) and then copy it over; however, I am loathe to do this as I really don't have the disk space.

If your having problems installing try downloading the install disc.

Is there a special version or something? I'm using my original ff7 PC Cds. They don't appear to be scratched or damaged, but the installer just crashes.

Sometime the discs dont look messed up but they are. Theres also the ultima version of the game, which is basically a pre-cracked game, so the discs arent needed. Its uses a different installer so that could help too. You can find that in probably most torrent sites. I know mininova and isohunt have it though.
