The amount of sense you have not to get smacked upside the head. Or perhaps the amount of sense you lose when are smacked upside the head. Either works.

Now that I think about it, that saying doesn't make a lick of sense, now does it?

One lick is never enough to get a good grasp of how something tastes. A second is almost always needed to have a firm opinion of things. Thus, only having a lick of sense means that one lacks enough sense to do something in the proper or more logical manner. :|

Imagine if your tongue was in your brain. Imagine how much information your tongue would hold if it was in your brain. That's how much a lick of sense is. (I think)
