Well it's completely down to you really. I'm assuming you mean "what race?" as in one of your threads you made you stated that you were going to become a Black Mage.
Choosing the right race can give you an edge, for example choosing Taru-Taru when becoming a Black Mage is a pretty good idea since Taru-Taru have magic and MP stats like no other. But if you sink your teeth well into Black Mage and decide it's not for you and you decide you now want Warrior you're tied to a magic based character (Not to say that Tarus don't make good Warriors, but choosing Taru won't take full advantage of the strength a Warrior could have). My point being that looking up the advantages and disadvantages of each Race before choosing a job might be wise, but again it's completely up to you, don't feel obliged to choose a magic race just because you decide to become a Black Mage.
Well hope this helps, and good luck in Vana'Diel.
While it may be a concern when you first start the game, once you have the funds to equip yourself properly, any race can excel at any job. Granted, a tarutaru warrior with great equipment will never be quite as good as an elvaan or galka with the same equipment. However, if you put time into getting good equipment, you'll still be better than the average joe. A well equipped tarutaru melee will outperform an averagely equipped melee in almost any situation.
Of course, such equipment to correct statistical handicaps can sometimes be rather expensive. That's why it might be difficult when you first start the game. It does pay to play to your race's stats when you choose the job or vice versa, but don't feel obligated to be a tarutaru if you choose BLM. At the same time, don't expect to have the easiest of times if you choose to be a galka BLM.
well, when I played I chose to be an Elvaan RM, and he worked out pretty well. But yeah, it is definately easier to choose a race that accents a class, rather than takes away from it. Another account I had I was a Taru Warrior, so it is all up to you, if you want to be normal, or if you want a challenge.
Mr. Lawl
yes, well maybe your right. But then again, i hate tarus( not as a race, i just dont like them as characters)......(that didnt really make any sense, didnt it?).....
Anyways, I think i will become a hume black mage, or a hume warrior......or a......i could go on forever. Can you guys tell me wat jobs there are and wat there advantages are?
Go for the diceroll.
To choose your race, 1 through 5 is Hume, Elvaan, Tarutaru, Mithra, Galka, and 6 is roll again.
To chose your job, 1 through 6 is WAR, MNK, BLM, WHM, RDM, THF.
etc. You could always do what I did and make 5 characters, one of each race, then level each starting job on them up to ~10 or so, and go with whatever tickles your fancy.
Only don't go Elvaan. They're annoying.
I just want a list of the jobs! even the crazy awesome ones, liie a dragoon!
Well to start with you can only Choose either Warrior, White Mage, Black mage, Red Mage, Monk or Thief. These are the jobs you should concern yourself with first.
Here's some tips that may help you decide
Warrior
Your responsibility in battle is to get the enemies attention and make him focus on you while the rest of your party hack and nuke (Casting Black Magic) away at the monster (Or the "Mob" as monsters are more commonly known in the world of Vana'Diel for some reason). Taking all the damage in battle is known as "Tanking", you may need to become familiar with this term as you'll most probably be asked to "Tank" a lot of the time.
Stats that are useful: VIT, STR, HP
Monk
Just use your Skills and Abilities to hit the enemy as hard as you can, simple.
Stats that are useful: STR
White Mage
This Job leaves you with a big responsibility; to heal the party. Especially take notice of the tank, if he/she's taking all the damage he/she is the one going to need your healing spells the most.
Stats that are useful: MND, MP
Black Mage
Simple really just cast harmful spells on your opponent, the only thing to remember is not to spam spells (Constantly cast them) when in a party as this will goad the mob into beating on your frail Black Mage body, and you will go down like a bag of potatos.
Stats that are useful: INT, MP
Thief
This job doesn't have any real purpose in battle until later on, but it does have some neat tricks such as Flee (Allows you to run really fast) Treasure Hunter (Makes mobs drop their valubles) and an ability (I forget the name) that makes the mob drop more gil.
Stats that are useful: DEX, AGL, STR
And when you hit level 30 with one of the initial Jobs you can think about moving on to such Jobs as Paladin, Dark Knight, Dragoon, Ranger, Ninja, Samurai, Blue Mage, Corsair, Puppeteer or Beastmaster. I don't need to tell you what their roles are, you'll probably already find by the time you reach level 30 that in your experience you've partied with them all and know how they function.
If you look here* you find a table of the base stats of each race, this will let you see more clearly how to choose a race that will take advantage of the full strength of the Job you desire.
*= The word "Here" is a link
yay! ive desided to be a hume black mage! can you tell me if this is a good combo?
Hume is always a good Race to pick because it has no serious disadvantages regarding stats, you can change to pretty much any Job and have moderatly good stats. A Taru takes advantage of a Magic Job but not Physical Jobs, A Galka takes advantage of Physical Jobs but not Magic Jobs. A Hume can take advantage of any Job but not as much as a Race that has a strength in that paticular field E.g Galka with Strength, Mithra with Agility, Taru With Magic.
I'd like to point out that Elvaan has the highest base STR stat, not Galka.Quote:

Technically, unless the Elvaan WHM or RDM enfeebles a whole bunch, MND imo is not that useful outside of stoneskin. The rest of the white magic spells dont seem to be affected enough by MND alone imo.
MND affects cure potency by a tiny tiny tiny margin.
For all of the Elvaan WHMs that try to make themselves feel better by saying they are better WHMs because of 6 more MND at 75...
Race aside... you could load up with 30+ MND to maybe get 1 or 2 more points of cure potency.
OR
You could put about 200-300MP worth of gear in those slots instead for a ton more cures.
You do the math.
I weren't saying they had the highest Strength stat, I was using Galka as an example as they are one of the Races that do take advantage of the Strength stat. Either way I thought Elvaan and Galka Strength stats were the same?Quote:
