It's pretty difficult to land on the PS1/GBA versions, but you just have to land directly on the middle tower, if I recall (the highest tower?).
I sympathise with you absolutely here. I spent about an hour trying to land on the GBA version-I'm not kidding. No trick, I'm afraid. :(
