Eyes on Final Fantasy takes Second Life - wtf bumped thread what is going ON!?

Hi guyz this thread was made in July. The data contained within this post is somewhat inaccurate! Go to the end of the thread to view the new wave.

What is Second Life? Well, it's this online virtual worldy gamey type thing where you can create or do anything you want to. Anything. Lightsaber fight with the Kool Aid man under the sea? Check. Ride a giant penis shaped hoverbike? Check. Get your breasts milked and then hug a Snorlax? Check. If you can make it, you can do it.

Think of it as sort of a 3D habbo hotel with much more creative scope. What's more, people sell virtual stuff they have made for real money. Some people have made real life millions from this place.

As such, myself and DK thought it would be badass to generally smurf around and cause mayhem, and we're inviting YOU along for the ride!

SO, WANT TO JOIN!?!?!?!?

1) Go to Second Life: Your World. Your Imagination., download the client (30MB) and register yourself an account.
2) Load 'er up and go through the dumb tutorial. This bit is lame.
3) Once free, Edit -> Groups -> Search and type "copy paste DUH" and join! This is the EoFF group!
4) Click IM on the bottom and select copy paste DUH. Send us all a message to let us know you're in our land of the damned and we'll look after you from there.

Reuters actually pay a guy to be in Second Life full time and to report on news from the world. Yes. Yes, really. I know.

I joined earlier today, once I can be arsed to get past the boring tutorial level, I'm in.

Just for the record, you can skip the Tutorial island by teleporting to "Help Island" and from there just teleporting to wherever the hell you want.

I got it, the name is Mirage Mizser <,<. I think the game is a bit slow, and unstable.

It was slow a bit for me in the beginning too. Once I logged in the next day though, it was working perfectly fine. In fact, I can actually be typing this and my computer doesn't freeze. It's like, drugged.

Anyway, as I said before, I'm Kentarou Nikolaidis. I'm now going to follow the steps shown in the thread post to find everyone else.

Edit: Odd, I searched "Copy Paste DUH" and no group of that name popped up.

I believe it might be case sensitive, and so searching for "copy paste DUH" might work. If not, we'll contact you in game when we go on and add you manually.

How do I get off orientation island? Also, i lag by over 3 seconds on Second Life.

I'm pretty sure that along the path, there should be one of those clicky-hand thingies that teach you how to fly. Once you learn how, fly to a temple and teleport out of the place.

Also, something REALLY weird happened to me. I was just cruising around, when suddenly, I found civilization! YAY! I walked into a building, and suddenly I was underwater, then stuck in the floor of a building, and when I finally got out, I was a girl in tights. O_o

I just had a stroke of idea-ness. Perhaps we could have a Second Life meeting during E3. It would be pretty neat, if I do say so myself.

I've downloaded it and am in the group...I saw a furry today on there and was like "lol furry" I've also managed to get a couple of friends and plenty of random female avatars are saying "hi" to me...only female ones apart from the random dude on the beginning island who asked me how to escape it. For me, (I have 256 MB RAM yeah I know :D) I disable all programs like MSN and the like, and it's okay then.

This is so odd. Whenever I search for the group "copy paste DUH" I never find it, even when I copied and pasted it. Perhaps we are on seperate servers (if they can possibly be seperated)?

Ah, slow and crashy Second Life.

Well, I just finished making a huge cannon. It's pretty darned cool.

I finished a cannon after you left yesterday, Kent'. It didn't really have the desired effect, as it blasted me through the floor instead.

Ah, I see. Perhaps you could try shooting one instead? From what I've seen, merely shooting someone has enough blast-power to be cannon worthy, and won't blast you through the floor.

Or, better yet, we could put a platform near the bottom of the cannon, and plant the person with the C4 just under that platform.

You should try flying inside the cannon before you detonate the C4. That would be more likely to blast you into the air, I think.

I remember downloading this and signing up ages ago. I also remember being impressed at what questions the sign up asked me to determine if I was a real person or not.

Then I tried to run it repeadedly. Crashed, crashed, and crashed some more.

We took some more screen shots (almost typed something completely different half drunk is not good for me) but yeah we decided at one point we'd been just too violent and so me and Faris posed for a cutsie picture when we were glitched underground with psy.

It looked intriguing, but I haven't found it to be of any real interest

Yeah, there is coding involved. I don't know if SL uses its own coding language, or a more common one, 'cause I am not an expert in such matters. It doesn't look too complex though.

If your project goes well, you could sell it on Second Life in exchange for real money. One Chinese woman has made over a million (real) dollars from SL.

I'm not on SL at the moment though 'cause I'm not on the right computer.

Hmm, I really don't know. This game seems like something that I would play once or twice, then get bored of it.

I started to figure out how the scripting works and made my first multi-objected item. Now I'll have to see if my interest in this lasts...

Downloaded, got bored, uninstalled it. It was neat that you could fly.

Pretty much the only thing to do in this game is to make stuff that launches other people around.

Yeah I lost interest in it pretty fast. This is no replacement for Garry's Mod.

If you hang out in Reebok all day then yeah I guess it would get old in a couple of days. If you explored the wide world you could stretch it to a fortnight once every 4-6 months!

Yeah, I just started checking out the world trying to figure out how to make money. There are a lot of ... interesting ... places out there. Especially if you check the mature checkbox.

well last night was fun...me and Faris spent some time exploring the game world if I had bothered to look at the messages I had found today I'd have been able to take us clubbing though our exploring took us to money island for a few minutes it was so busy the lagg was killing us so we quickly escaped our current location (because it was the first place to escape to I thought off) is Reebok again.

The only problems I have is:
Lag (all the time)
and
Crash (not all the time)

Yeah, we all have that. Mine wasn't so bad the first night, it keeps getting worse each night for me. When there are more randoms around the lag just kills. Some of the places we went to, which were more popular, had a lot more lag. What I dislike more though is when you try to see what something does and the camera puts your view to the other side of a smurfing wall.

For those that are having lag issues, try increasing your bandwidth settings under preferences, it might help.

For the rest of this year I'm renting an island on second life where we all can RP or just hang out together pretending we are in Spira, Besaid island.

No, It's not exactly Besaid, I couldn't afford a US$1,600 island just for us like the FFVII guys did. But it has white sand, palm trees and water and mountains like Besaid. The owner told me it will stay deserted and he left us a low tech hut. We can add trees and boats and such.

UPDATE: one of the urls is obsolete, we are moving from graces and making the hybris island "Bikanel" instead of Kilika. On our new place we can sail a boat between Kilika and Besaid and teleport between them. :D

You can either pay real money to get Linden Dollars or you can do odd jobs/gamble to win some money. Also, you can't own real estate and partake in some of the fancier functions unless you upgrade to a pay account from a free one.

Second life is essentially like an MMO version of the sims done in a 3d environment. You can earn money, buy items, have a relationship ect with the people you meet. Surprisingly instead of failing it has done a massive amount of success in the time since it's release, as seen in Renmiri (and some of our older screen shots) you can fly (sometimes very useful if you get caught sinking through the floor for some reason, i.e. a bomb) I had good fun in Second Life but people didn't stay and it takes up a lot of resources so I uninstalled it.

Paid accounts have better tech support and a place to store their stuff, i.e. a house.

But if you have a friend that owns land, (like Renmiri ;) ) you can live on their land. Spira still has 3 free huts and Kilika has 4. If we need more homes than that, I'll make them available :love:

I've set up my account,downloaded the client and I'm logged in but I'm having connection errors, which doesn't make sense because I can access the Net just fine. I'll keep working on it.

We are slowly building stuff from scratch because there isn't much FFX in Second Life and also because I don't want to get in trouble with Square.

I actually can do exact copies if I use the rips I did from the disk (like the one below) but that is very likely to get me in hot water with both Second Life and SE . For that reason and because my main goal is to make a homage to FF not to steal their stuff, I opted to recreate a fan version of each. I did cheat a bit and ripped Rikku's Al Bhed eyes, Yuna's shirt, a blitzball, the Aurochs and Ronso Fangs logo and the odd thing here and there, but mostly I'm just recreating stuff.

That last pic contains my original 90 piece path, which sadly had to be compressed due to the item limit. It still looks great, but I'm glad Renmiri saved the original version in that shot.

We have 5 from here: Me, Little Blue, Tabris, Tasura and Vincent ThunderGod. Of those, 3 are in FFP also: Me, blue and Tab. From FFP we also got Braska's Aeon. Joining us from SL itself we have had some 4 other regulars helping build stuff. And we just got a Japanese Yuna to visit us :D

Oh by the way Renmiri, I ended up doing about 2 hours of touring people straight - we were stuck with those German guys quite some time, and as great as their English was considering, they didn't fully understand English, and they were newbies straight from tutorial island.

So as you can imagine, it was a long tour. ;)

I also got to know Draco - and he's really nice, so we're getting to be friends. :D

I can imagine. Its' hard to keep track of two people in a team, so I can imagine that 6 is pretty difficult with only one host!

Everyone joined in this crazy fight at the end. One Spiran guy arrived to show off all of his powerful summons, while Draco and the German guys shot at them with guns. I didn't know how to use weapons yet until Draco kindly showed me afterwards - and gave me some of his weapons. I mostly observed from my perch on the Chocobo and pretended to be a frenzied innocent bystander.

Hopefully that kind of thing won't happen too often though. I'm sure any new users who might have popped in at that moment would have been frightened away. The summons had literally slowed the game to a crawl, at least for me.

So yes, I know how choppy the game gets with tons of users around. I sort of had to keep track of the one guy who's English wasn't quite as good, and who would lose track of where we were and what we were doing.

I naturally got lost even more than he did, as I usually do. I eventually mistakenly lead the two German guys a long way in the wrong direction. :lol: I literally had to use landmarks to get back to Draco on two occasions.

That's the only thing. I'm great at people skills and interjecting humour, but I have trouble flying to the right part of the island. I always end up in the wrong place. I really have to work on that. Otherwise, I definitely got the hang of it.

One thing I'd like to do is join the Spira Host group so I get the appropriate title. I think that I might get tired of that eventually though, so I'm willing to continue to help with the building from time to time and maybe try out testing the Blitz ball stadium as you asked in the announcements.

Yeah, we have fun there when there's no "tourists"! :D

I'll add you to the host team so you get the tag and you are already on the builders team so you can build stuff to decorate the islands at anytime :)

Psy and Dan would simply get banned in a split second, they'd simply run around caging people and filling kilika up with proto pics. I know because Psy tells me so. I'll also come clean, I was the tall one with the yuna staff in that screenie. And yes, Vince my SL crashed, wouldn't work for a while so I got bored and went bed.

Funny this thread is around. One of my friends was reminiscing on a fun filled day in Second Life recently and I was like "Wtf you actually remember that?". We only played the game for like one or two days before deleting it D: He told me the name I made was pure concentrated awesomeness. I didn't even remember. So he told me.

I've just spent the last 10 hours going to "escort" venues *cough* brothels *cough*

Then proceeding to dance and ask other "escorts" *cough* prozzie *cough* where i could obtain my very own penis and how much would it cost.

Then I got funked stripped off my top danced on stage to impress an "escort" girl I had met with my animalistic sexiness and found out that I had somehow earned myself $25L!

Then I brought this "escort" to a venue where we danced in the moonlight to 80's classics like message in a bottle by The Police.

IT WAS A STRANGE NIGHT...especially when I found out one of the "escorts" was 50 years old and the other 37 years old (and 6''1' tall!)
