I'm betting that they won't count for much at all, and their only purpose was to see how many people were interested in becoming a CK.

If it was just for that, they could have gone "Hey who wants to be a CK" "me!" "Okay let's go!"

I'm sure the part where you had to write out the reasons why you would be good/want to be a CK will play some part in it.

To the least, I think someone who had valid reasons and examples should have a better chance over someone who said something to the extent of "Well I want to help out and this seems to be a good way!"
