a crucible is a container,
Is it when Squall cuts the barrier around Rinoa in Esthar?
same root word
So its either the container she is in, or the reason she is in there
Is it the lunar cry
Is it on the map
Do you mean on the planet's surface?
it wouldn't happen to be the symbol seifer wears? the cross that is also a blade?
It's still not related to Seifer.
Is it on the world map, in a city, or an event?
The answer is one of those things.

Repost:
The cleaved cruciform awaits
In a very subjective way
HintA GF is involved.
Ok, I have already asked about odins zantetskun, and gilgamesh, is it..............
Tonberies attack?
Not related to Tonberry King.
I didn't say tonberry king.....
Is it anything to do with Alaxander?
Regular Tonberries aren't GFs, though.
At any rate, Alexander isn't involved.
Shiva?
Not related to Shiva.
When seifer kills odin?
.... It appears that your riddle may have a link to Cid's long awaited Gunblade, or cruciform rifle, and the pride he has at the answering of his wish. However, that has nothing to do with a GF....
I do not see how this riddle could not contain Seifer as that is what his blade and coat, and limit break are all aligned to as well as his scar. However, you said in a subjective manor did you not.
Are you sure this riddle has not stepped off the path?
PS, I have only played the first disk, so I am mostly following Hypos lead.
I'm not saying that Seifer doesn't fit the clues, but he's not what I had in mind when I wrote it. There's more than one cleaved cruciform in the game.
You can solve some of this riddle by elimination.
is it from the sidequests or from the story?
Mostly story, but there's a sidequest that can be done as well.
BG57, you have bested me, but in a game of normal riddles, I think I could match you.
As it is, I tip my cactuhat for you!
[tips hat]
Thanks, although you can still get the GF involved by randomly guessing.
quetzlcautal?
Ifrit?
Doomtrain?
pandemona?
eden?
cactuar?
gilgamesh?
odin?
carbuncle?
It's bad form to post more than one guess at a time, but in the interest of saving time I'll say it's none of the above.
phoenix?
if not...it has to be diablos ^^
Again, please post one guess at a time. And it's neither.
i know! griever...if i remember correctly he has a cruciform on his chest :P
Hmmm... "A GF is involved", "mostly story, but there's a sidequest that can be done", "nothing to do with seifer", it's not Quezacotl, Ifrit, Diablos, Carbuncle, Odin, Tonberry, Pandemona, Cactuar, Doomtrain or Eden.
I say the part where Carway's guard sends you out to the Tomb of the Unknown King and you have the option of going further in and getting the Brothers.
Nice! Okay....
I'll give you info on your helpers,
And even a unique for one of 'em.
You find me in the origin
And the place for lots of crooks.
Should be easy, I guess.
Related to D District Prison I'm guessing. It it the prisoner that upgrades your battle meter?
No, but close.
Moombas?
Not Moombas.
Ok guys, I have to admit, DD got on my nerves, but this thread is impressive. I am almost slightly kinda in a way hoping that he maybe makes a possible second account.
I really hope he sends an appology coconut pie
shot in the dark here, the computer terminal in the classroom? (or something related to quistes trepe at the begining of the game)
That's what BG-57 already guessed, still no and still very close to the answer.
UMMMMM
the rail helps squall survive......
If the guard hadnt come in they woulda died, especially zell....
i have no freakin idea
edit: changing my guess to CC joker during chaos in garden
gives you gf meter
holds the leviathon card
He's in the garden
he's near where people break curfew
and if I'm way off I should get an "epic fail" sign or something because here comes the next riddle :D
I decide who lives and dies
bringing men to valhalla
From the break of day
to the eastern archeopaligo
I choose the man who leads the masses
i serve the role of counselor
I can even grant your deepest desire
what am I?
docta fizz: correct!
Witches (in general)?
Headmaster Cid?
Odin?
Delling? I'm thinking it has something to do with Norse Mythology, and Delling was the mortal consort to Night, and father of Day, brought to Valhala by a valkyrie after he died in battle. After he was brought to Valhala, he became the god of Dawn. I think the last 3 lines would then refer to him in FFVIII and not in mythology.
thinking outside the box is very good your closer than before but still no
I'm not sure then, I'm not extremely well versed in Norse Mythology and can't place many parallels to FFVIII, but least I was on the right track.
If it has something to do with Guardian Force and counselors are you those guys at the cave that lets you decide how long your journey to Ifrit should take?
Or are you Rinoa's dad who says not to go any further than you have to? Doesn't sound counselor.
nothing to do with GF's and not rinny's dad
I came from a childs toy
a breath of wind to give me life
I decide who lives and dies
bringing men to valhalla
From the break of day
to the eastern archeopaligo
I choose the man who leads the masses
i serve the role of counselor
I can even grant your deepest desire
what am I?
To keep this one from going stale I'm going to add a little something to it
Gilgamesh involved at all? Trying to find something that has a connection to Odin, if that was on the right track.
nope
odin being outside the box, was on the right track
Diablos?
came from a childs toy > Game
a breath of wind to give me life>Blizzard entertainment?
I decide who lives and dies
bringing men to valhalla
From the break of day
to the eastern archeopaligo
I choose the man who leads the masses>he chose Squall who's the commander
i serve the role of counselor
I can even grant your deepest desire>came from a genie's lamp
what am I?
no gf involvement of any sort
Grendel!
I came from a childs toy
a breath of wind to give me life
Not sure about these lines.
I decide who lives and dies
bringing men to valhalla
Grendel was that guy in that thing mythology with valhalla? I don't even know xD
From the break of day
to the eastern archeopaligo
Islands closest to heaven is the most eastern archipelago I could find
I choose the man who leads the masses
i serve the role of counselor
Nothing here either.
I can even grant your deepest desire
what am I?
All I have is a guess, sorry D:
Griever?
I came from a childs toy
a breath of wind to give me life (Pinwheel)
I decide who lives and dies
bringing men to valhalla (Valkyrie)
From the break of day
to the eastern archeopaligo (Rising Sun)
I choose the man who leads the masses
i serve the role of counselor (Cardinal)
I can even grant your deepest desire (Shooting Star)
what am I? (Rinoa's Weapons)
Nice BG, I think you've got it.
I'm pretty sure, but I'll wait for confirmation all the same.
I happened to know what a Valkyrie was (from both opera and Valkyrie Profile), and the rest fell into place.
Ranzien, I'm surprised that you didn't beat me to the answer. This kind of riddle is right up your alley. :greenie:
Clever riddle that :) Well done.
The Creature is a Moogle
Here goes:
Pleasant to the ears
But deadly to your health
Only one window exists
Where it means salvation
siren/sirens song?
Pleasant to the ears - The hum of the blue/white light in the Deep Sea Research Centre.
But deadly to your health - Forced battle if you walk while the light is on.
Only one window exists - So don't walk while the light is on.
Where it means salvation - And you'll get to the middle a-ok!
So my answer is the glowing core light of the DSRC.
Hm?
How about the Laguna flashbacks?
They cause your party to faint/suddenly fall asleep, which I suppose isn't great for your health. All the dreams serve no direct benefit to Squall and co. except the dream Zell has (not seen by the player) of Ward working in the D-District Prison (the one window). This information helps the SeeDs escape the prison, effectively "saving" them from their predicament.
I don't know if that noise that precedes each dream can be called 'pleasant'. So I'm not confident about this answer.
Then again, I was pretty confident about the last. So you never know. xD
It's not the Laguna flashbacks, but I like your reasoning.
the assasination of sorcerous during the parade?
pleasant to the ears - all the music during festivities
deadly to your health - stabbed through the heart by ice
only one window exists - irvine only has 1 shot
where it means salvation - the conflict with sorcerous would end?
still grabbing at straws
Edit: (my other answer is women in general, but that is without this [strike]Where it means salvation[/strike])
It's not the assassination attempt on Edea.
That being said, your guess is the closest so far.
alright this probably has nothing to do with anything but:
perhaps after the escape pod exit that squall does in order to save rinny?
really no where near my "closest guess" but gotta try as I ponder more
Not related to the escape pod.
Getting colder.
same time frame I'll go with the inauguration (spelling?) of the sorcerous as ambasador
It's not Edea becoming an ambassador.
WAIT I KNOW
Is it Ultimicia's castle?
Pleasent to the ears, the piano, deadly to your health time compression the possibility they may die (idk laguna moaned about believing in one another >_>) , only one chance way to get to ulti, through time compression, salvation, urm killing that freak :D
the fight with Omega in Ultimecia's castle?
Pleasant to the ears> The bell you ring to summon him
But deadly to your health> Omega is pretty deadly
Only one window exists>Limited window of time to fight him from the time you ring the bell
Where it means salvation>not sure killing him maybe.
: aaack I posted this just after chickenheart :p
It's not related to either Omega Weapon or Ultimecia's castle.
I new here.
So, the current riddle is:
And the closest guess is:
It is close because of the person being Edea?
----
Pleasant to the ears
This seems to be more of a sound that one hears. But is it the characters or the players?
The word pleasant could mean that it is agreeable to the senses and/or mind. It could also relate to having a an agreeable manner, look, and the like.
The word ear could be the physical body part. It could also relate to one's sense of hearing. The word may also relate to grain-bearing plants.
But deadly to your health
A sound that is deadly? Maybe not in this case.
The word health has anything to do with culture or society? For that matter the word does it relate to toasting someone good health? I have a feeling that this has nothing to do with physical or mental health in any manner.
The word deadly on the other hand.... It could relate to the words implacable and extreme. The word could also relate to being very accurate or very boring. The word could also be related to what is typical of death. As I don't think that this would relate to the typical meaning - that being the cause of death.
Only one window exists
One one could relate to it being the sole thing out there.
The word window could relate to the window pane, but I don't think that's it. It could also relate to any opening that allows for air and wind to pass through, or any hole opening that resembles a window. This word could also be a metaphor for hope.
Where it means salvation
Is this meant to be a location of saving someone or something?
The word salvation could relate to the physical thing. It could also relate to being saved, it could also be a person who saves somebody else. The word could also relate to the word redemption - which is associated with the theology of deliverence from and and from the penalties of sin.
The word where may be the question about a location. But it could also relate to an event or the word wherever. With the question where is he to blame? the word in question means in what respect? With the question where is it? the question word means in/at what place? With the question where did he go? the question word means to/toward what place? With the question where did he learn it? the question word means from what place/source? And that is just the adv. form of the word where.
---
Any why, I was just putting my thoughts down. I haven't played this in a while.
Can you tell us what kind of answer your looking for?
My guess is the Balamb Garden verses the Galbadia Garden. Here's why:
Pleasant to the ears
Uhh, I not certain on this.
But deadly to your health
The sounds of combat could be deadly to someone's health. Maybe.
Only one window exists
Rinoa's only hope of rescue, after she falls in the Quad, is Squall.
Where it means salvation
With salvation being Squall.
Welcome aboard! :)
It's not Balamb or Galbadia garden.
The answer does relate to Edea.
BG, what about my thoughts. Which is before my guess and reasoning.
And what are you looking for with the answer?
Since I've already given quite a hint all I'll say is the answer is Hintsomething you hear. <- Click on this to see the hidden text.
Repost:
Pleasant to the ears
But deadly to your health
Only one window exists
Where it means salvation
Okay. I will go with the musical Edea's Parade Theme which is played in the Galbadia's Parade. Here's why:
Pleasant to the ears -> Only the player can here it and it may be quite pleasant to listen to.
But deadly to your health -> Hmmm, could be related to the fact that Edea is being controlled by Ultimecia. The Galbadia soldier and G. Garden student fear what will happen.
Only one window exists -> They can see that.....
Where it means salvation -> .....with the only salvation being Edea's death.
Am I right?
Good guess, but it's not Fithos Lusec Wecos Vinosec.
Would telling us whether it's a song or a sound effect be revealing too much?
Most likely. It is one of those things.
Any chance it would be the background music that plays at Edea's Orphanage? I can't give reasoning for this, as I just thought about it.
It's not Ami.
Hmm, now I wondering if it is when she is a playable character when Squall and the others head to Esthar.... Is it?
Yes, the time she spends in the party is part of the answer.
A sound of some sort with Edea in the part. Is that the basics of what we have gathered?
The music at the Great Salt Lake?
Pleasant to the ears -----> compared to the rest of VIII's music, I don't really find it that great
But deadly to your health -----> You'll freeze or get killed by Abaddon?
Only one window exists
Where it means salvation -----> The only way to escape is through that window-portal thingy after fighting Abaddon?
Okay I personal doubt that it's a background music...
I don't remember if Edea's Ice Strike Limit Break has a sound effect to it. If it does then that is my guess.
Pleasant to the ears -> Only the player can hear it and it may be quite pleasant to listen to.
But deadly to your health -> Ice Strike is a dangerous thing to be hit by.
Only one window exists -> It is the only exit for Edea to remain alive
Where it means salvation -> Edea is heading to Esthar to see if her Sorceress power is gone - thus being cured of a dangerous thing.
Ice Strike does have a SFX, but it's not the answer. You are very close though.
I doubt it is related to the Junction system - because any character would have a sound effect when casting magic or when summoning.
So it has to be a personal and individual action that has a sound effect to it. But what?
Edit: Anyone else going to try. I'm out of ideas.
Edit 2: Is it a battle sound?
When Edea appears in battle, I believe it's always prefaced by a sound that can be likened to a jingling of bells. That's my guess.
Here's the explanation:
Pleasant to the ears - It's a pleasant noise. Who doesn't like bells?
But deadly to your health - When you hear it for the first and second times, it's bad for you health on account of the fact that you're fighting Edea.
Only one window exists - However, Edea does join your party for one segment of the game.
Where it means salvation - So it's no longer a sound synonymous with fighting an evil sorceress.
Like that idea, No-Mercy!
I like it too. You are correct! :D
On a related note, Edea is the party is one of the coolest things in the game. Pity it is for such a short time.
I agree, I would've liked to use both Edea and Seifer for longer periods of time. In my first playthrough, I actually expected Seifer to become a permanent party member later in the game Magus-style.
But I digress. Here's my riddle (I think it might be a bit easy):
Dead would be the best description
For almost all but a vocal seven.
Amongst these seven, you’ll agree
That love can be left lingering.
Are you looking for a creature?
CC Group?
Well, I don't want to give away too many clues in a short space of time unless other people also demonstrate that they're having trouble working it out. But for the record, it doesn't have anything to do with Esthar. And the earlier clue I gave about it being related to sound is a pretty big one.. so long as you're thinking a little outside the box.
I'm not going to give out any more clues for a little while. I still stand by my original comment stating that I think the riddle is easy. The answer isn't something obscure.
Ah, alright. But I'm not certain about others. I not much into figuring out what kind of sound it could be.
Is it the organ puzzle, where you have to hit all the notes at the same time?
Gonna guess Raine
The chocobo whistle?
Eyes on me?
Is it Liberi Fatali?
Correct!
Reasoning:
Dead would be the best description - Latin is considered a dead language
For almost all but a vocal seven. - But the lines Fithos Lusec Wecos Vinosec are actually not Latin. The lyric is sang seven times throughout the song
Amongst these seven, you’ll agree that love can be left lingering. - The line Fithos Lusec Wecos Vinosec bears the interesting characteristic of being an anagram of the phrase 'Succession of Witches' and the word 'Love'
Clever riddle!
Agreed.

Follow the Princess' lead
princess = rinoa/ obvious
princess = sorcerous/ possible
princess = shiva?? meh grasping
not sure where she comes in but Im going to start with the junction "junction switch" ability (fairly certain I'm far off but your answer may give a piece of insight)
It's not junction switching.
2 guesses, but i think it's customary to give one at a time, rinoa at the dance party
The answer does not involve Rinoa directly, although she is the Princess.
Rinoa's father, General Fury Caraway?
Quistis being in love with Squall?
The only other character I can think of is Julia Heartilly, she is Rinoa's mother and could be considered the princess of music. Love is also associated with her.
It's not Julia.
I gotta say, this riddle's pretty obscure even for you BG, bravo...
Um, thanks.
So, do you want a hint?
I know I would like a hint.
HintThe answer is not a person.

Angelo?
odine bangle :D
No, but you're getting closer.
heh heh dirty magazine? hmm I'll change the question to Is it a magazine?
I still haven't an idea... Is it a special item or related to Sorceresses?
This is unlikely, but is it having to intentionally lose the Ifrit card to Caraway to get him to play Rinoa's?
i actually like that guess :)
haha very nice, luvluv g
the item you find in lunatic pandora that increases the affinity of all gfs at once, i also believe you are searching for rinoa (captured as sorceress) near this time, not sure exactly how that fits in :D
We have a winner! :D
You can also refine Fat Chocobo card into a hundred of these, if memory serves.
Basically Rinoa is the romantic lead, so repeating the last line twice was a reminder of the redundancy of the word 'love'.

Odin's Zenzokuken attack (if that's the one - the one which instant kills things. Like Marlboros :D )
It's called Zantetsuken and I think it may be refering to Gilgamesh.
Is Docta still here? These guesses have been stewing for a while and they're starting to stagnate, lol. Is it the centre square on the TT board?
Is it the Garden Committee page of the Balamb Garden webiste - by the Squall's student desk?
It has been so long sorry guys I'm gonna give it to champagne supernova :D sorry again
Hey, docta fizz, care to give the answer to your riddle, if you remember it? I know I'd like to know.
I might post a riddle of my own, that is if champagne supernova doesn't give one....
the answer is Zantetsuken, he already confiremed that, and I doubt Supernova would mind see as he hasn't posted in this thread for almost 2 months lol, go be daring and submit your riddle!!!!
Yay! This one should be relatively easy - but who am I to judge?

In circles I run,
One card I hold may be won.
I reside where seeds are planted,
There is one which grew to Command fellow seeds,
But I am not a seed.
You've seen me many times.
There are two places on this island,
Which share the same name,
It is also where all of the seeds started.
My card? Why, it is a knight,
But unavailable through the average means.
Which card do I hold?
And who am I?
----
Think carefully, as I might have thrown you off course a few times.
Cid, with Seifer's Card?
My first thought when I read the first two lines: The jogger in Balamb Garden with his Mogry Kid card!
Surely the "seeds" are the SEEDs.Quote:
I reside where seeds are planted,
There is one which grew to Command fellow seeds,
But I am not a seed.
You've seen me many times.
Balamb and Balamb Garden.Quote:
There are two places on this island,
Which share the same name,

Knight = Guardian Force? Second line may refer to it only being available through Chocobo World.Quote:
My card? Why, it is a knight,
But unavailable through the average means.
See above.Quote:
Which card do I hold?
And who am I?
If I am correct, open round.
Wow, that was quick. I thought it take a bit more time, oh well. Sorry Eaglegun, but Karifean is correct. So we now have an open floor. Here's my riddle explanation:
In circles I run,
One card I hold may be won.
He is the underclass man jogger in the First floor Hall of Balamb Garden. He wears a yellow shirt if I'm not mistaken, but he is always running in a circle.
He is a Triple Triad card player, but he only has one card of interest: the Mini-Mog GF card. I would like to know where the name Mogry Kid for the Mini-Mog card came from, Karifean.
I reside where seeds are planted,
There is one which grew to Command fellow seeds,
But I am not a seed.
You've seen me many times.
A garden is where seeds are planted. So a Garden is where SeeDs are planted. So your thought of seeds equaling SeeDs is correct.
Squall is the SeeD who became the Commander of Balamb Garden, and now commands his fellow SeeDs.
This underclassman is not a SeeD at all, as far as we know that is.
That last line refers to the answer.
There are two places on this island,
Which share the same name,
It is also where all of the seeds started.
The Balamb Garden and the Balamb town are both on the Balamb island.
My card? Why, it is a knight,
But unavailable through the average means.
Yes, knight does mean GF in this case. And yes, this GF is only available through the Chocobo World side-game. The GF in question is the Mini-Mog.
Which card do I hold?
And who am I?
He holds the Mini-Mog card.
He is the underclassman jogger found in Balamb Garden.
----
Could anyone give me the Japanese script for the Mini-Mog card?
Ah, okay.
Hello?
Seems dead. But I would really like this to be alive.
Karifean declared the round open if he was right. So anyone can chime in with a riddle if they want. I'll try and put one together, but if anyone else has one, go ahead and post it.
This will bring you

Uh, BG-57, are we looking for a person? Because, I think you need to clue us in as to what your looking for....
A person is involved. It will help with the answer to find out who.
Have a feeling that the person is not a shop keeper or shop owner.
It's neither.
Thought so.
For some reason, the cube in "One hand cube" seems to refer to cubed as in 3-cubed is 9, that's what it refers to for me at least. Any connection to the answer?
It is indeed a number, but not 9.
3 cubed is 27.
It's not 27 either.
Um, 3 separate hands?
It's not 3.
Repost:

One hand cube

Uh, is the number 8?
If so, is it referring to the fact that there are 8 different ways of getting the answer - that may be way off.
It's not 8.
A person and a number.....
Uh, I'm currently out of ideas.
Would you like a hint?
Yes, please.
HintWhat can you count to with a hand?
That would be 5, so 5-squared is, uh, 25?
I'd like to see if others are interested in this as well.
Edit: Did I say 5-squared, I meant 5-cubed.
5-cubed is 125....? o.O =3 Oh and hiya everyone I'm new. :P
5 squared is 25, but it's not that number.
Yes, line two involves the number 125.
Welcome aboard Aqua. :)
Okay, so like, do you need to spend $125? So I'll guess a hotel room? :P
Nothing to do with rooms. 125 is indeed an amount of Gil.
Repost:

Edea's Letter? I remember being able to sell it an infinite amount of times for 125 Gil and then getting a new one from Edea.
