I unlocked a good amount of characters just doing VS. matches. I'm pretty sure there's 3 ways to get characters this time around; SSE, VS. Matches, or another method.

I unlocked a good amount of characters just doing VS. matches. I'm pretty sure there's 3 ways to get characters this time around; SSE, VS. Matches, or another method.
I got toon link by clearing classic with Link, and jigglypuff by doing 20 single player events.
on another note, soon after unlocking Wolf, he became my new main.
So if I had to pick a top 5... Wolf, Lucario, Pit, Fox, Marth
I still have some more characters to really try out, but I think those are gonna be my 5
