Basically. If you don't get it everywhere then you are missing some spots in your hair. I hate how that works. And I wish I was joking, but it seems hair dye can't be easy or clean.

That's probably because you're using a liquid to change the colour of something that covers most of your head. Mess it inevitable. And inevitable mess is the best kind, because you know it's going to happen so you just get stuck in and love every second! WAHAHAHAA.
