The UN is not a third world country. It does, however, have it's head stuck so far up it's @$$ that it takes several days to get anything done. Funny, you bitched at Bush for not getting things done for days, but it's all fine and dandy if the UN takes its sweet @$$ time helping out.Quote:

i didn't mean the un was a third world country. i was in the belief that when blackline had said "the reason y we should have or got help is cuz how many times have we helped all the other countries, we deserved that aid." he was referring to countries like ethiopia and the asian tsunami countries.
Cloud, i still dont think you addressed my concerns about niger. I feel its a pretty good summary of why we don;t help niger. I completley aggree with skyblade on our ally situation.
Sure niger couldn't help us, but a lot of other countries still coulda helped. America is not invincible, and we all (americans) know this. Yet to demand money from us because we are the richest seems very humorous. You can't place the responsability of helping others on the biggest guy alone. The rest of the world is bigger than us, and often against us.
Katrina is more of a matter to us because it hit us. Lets say a murder killed a hundred people in england, then came over to your house and killed someone you care for. You would prolly throw a lot aside, as the matter becomes more personal. Same with Katrina. I know many people would love for us just to say "Forget about us, lets all become slaves and help the rest of the world out" - well, I really fail to see any logical path in that idea.

I got three things I want to say.
1) The Statement "The US doesn't need help", You can never have too much help... Even with all the military here at home to help I would be willing to guess that there would still be casulties and the like. America is strong, but not invulnerable.
Thus one shouldn't say the US doesn't need it. Rather 3rd world countries don't have the ability to aid the US. That is how it works. Help can never be over done.*
2) The blame game I have nothing against it... it can actually help(by finding the causes... keep in mind the the word "causes" not "cause") and some if not most/all have given something.
3) yes My whole family has given somewhat.. emptied our cuboards of can goods... heh we didn't think ahead and ran out of food after donating, good thing we had some spare cash to go shopping.

instead of disputing one line in my post; please acknowlage the whole thing please. Its kinda frustrating throwing up a nice post, then getting a one sentance reply. That is not a rebuttle.
Anyways what I meant was simply that while help was not an issue, this tragedy was shrugged off by most of the world immediatley. I see the bleives of the rest of the world as being 'blacklined' and holding a 'double standard' after this accident.
I will go as far to say that my view of several eropean nations, are now very negatice. I guess everyone else is not so caring as they act, when it is not thier assets on the line.

it seems odd to me to critcise the eu for giving aid. name one eu country that has asked for aid. as far as un-recieving generosity is concerned i don't think you can criticise the eu for that.
nato normally never gives aid. it's a military alliance. i think they will be giving military equipment.
the un. was made for times like these and did their duty without being asked. yes it was slower than it should have been but it was still done promptly.
it seems ungrateful to view countries which selfless give aid negatively.
I'm curious to know what actual aid was sent by the countries that said they would help right after the Hurricane left MS and compare it to what was sent by other countries/agencies that waited until the US asked formally asked for help/stopped refusing foreign aid.
I am in the middle here. I do agree with Cloud to a point, but I am look at aid as being more of a kind gesture, over a game to see who can donate the most.
The only reason I am looking down on Europe at the moment, is because they have asked for aid and we have aided them. We have even offered aid where aid was not asked. This has been in our history since post wolrd war 1. It also seem bad that so many europeans are worried about us being a big bad guy, when we do help out. Oh, nm we can't help the whole world so our global rep desrves to burn I guess :rolleyes2
That is my only problem with europe. Well most of europe I should say.

Lots of people are helping them but some are still stuck in there homes and some are dieing cause of the water and air.
People say they don't want to leave and the people that are helping still come back cause they might change there mind.
But seems like People die cause of the air from the dead people underwater and makes nasty air.
But Still makes me sad for all of them My school is helping them out we made more money now. ^_^ We will help them.

europe hasn't really asked for aid since the end of the second world war. it's about time that america helping with that war stopped beiung used against us "yeah but we helped you back then against the world's most evil regime and helped rebuild after it" is not some kind of call for alliance in war or aid. it was a human duty at the time. what would america think of itself now if it had continued it's isolationism and let another few million jews be gassed?
it was 60 years ago. stop bringing it up. and when america stopped refusing aid and bit the bullet and asked for help it was given. no ifs, buts or maybes. no debt attached. no favours asked. it was asked for and it was given.
