I'm just going to post my thoughts on Neon Genesis Evangelion in here.
(SPOILER)It's not even that I hate the whole thing. It's just that it starts so....normally and proceeds to be more or less normal for many episodes. Hell, half of the original anime series I'd say. Sure there's Angels and trout but it doesn't have anywhere near the same tone as the last few episodes. And those last few episodes were when it was actualy GOOD.
Only...it hurts what was good by having what came before. The last couple episodes of the anime don't address jack trout about the plot. It doesn't explain Adam or SEELE or what make Fuyutsuki join up with Gendo or... The list of things that are never explained in the anime is very, very long. And so even though I genuinely enjoy the mind trip through Shinji's head, and I find the end of the last episode inspirational, I'm still left feeling frustrated and confused.
Also know there's End of Evangelion. I'm watching it now. But that is not doing anything to make me happy. The use of CHRISTIAN SYMBOLISM has taken on a whole new level of gratuitousness while having even less merit. Stigmata? Really? When robots attack Shinji's robot and he has blood on his hands? That's some great sign?
Uch....
I guess what I'm saying is that Eva is great when it does what it actually does good and that is examining the characters. When Asuka loses her mind, the history of Dr. Akagi and her mother and Rei, the episode with the last angel and how it devastates Shinji to kill him - that was actual quality I'd say.
But everything before that? The pretenses ata coherent narrative or to establish a believable fictional world? They fail spectacularly.
I'm the opposite. I thought Evangelion started out great and then went so far from out of left field it didn't even feel like the same show anymore and my brother and I couldn't make sense out of what the hell was going on. I only saw the original ending when they ran out of budget and had to rely on stock footage to finish it and then the renewed ending when they had the budget again. Never watched anything Evangelion related after that.
Rewatched parts of Kokoro Connect just now. Goddamn that was an awesome show.
So I just marathon'd Clannad with a couple of friends. 48 episodes including the OVA episodes (we left out the summary episode though), took 22 hours in total, with a combined break duration of 4 hours.
I haven't ever watched for this long at a time before and I doubt it'll happen again anytime soon. But it was awesome.
I'm currently in the process of watching Steins;Gate with my dad (10 episodes in, he's pretty bored, I have faith it will change by the halfway mark) and my brother's christmas present for me was that he will watch Clannad with me. I don't mind seeing it a third time, though any more than that feels dangerous. Don't wanna ruin the series for me.
All the while I still try to watch some NANA every now and then. A friend of mine is also watching it and is now quite a ways ahead of me and told me that the series gets pretty good. Motivated!
*points at my sig*
Everyone should watch Fairy Tail.
Just got cracking on Attack on Titan. Four episodes in and it's already one of my favourite series EVARRRR.
Jojo's Bizarre Adventure anime? Soundtrack includes tons of tracks by Yes?
WRYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!
And this April they're releasing Stardust Crusaders, the first appearance of the Stands. You have no idea how awesome this is.
Jojo's Bizarre Adventure is amazing. I didn't know what to expect from it, but it was completely brilliant.
This year the only thing I'm looking forward to is...
Space Dandy!
...ok maybe Sailor Moon too.
But SPACE DANDY!!!
Goddamn stupid Cowboy Bebop getting me all messy and emotional and trout!
Messy?
Ew. :erm:
Excuse me? :colbert:
:aimmad:
It's been years since I've watched Hellsing, but I am going to pick it up again this weekend! I don't even remember much of the story, just that I loved it.
