So what are we trying to figure out? A persons name or a specific event or something?

A warm-hearted fiend has no sins at heart,
before painful truth tears him apart.

Zidane has no angry feelings towards his comrades before he finds out the truth that he is from Terra and made to wreak havoc.

The words that echo through his mind,
are really not that hard to find.

You find them in a game script :p. And the words are spoken in Zidanes head in Oeilvert by the strange head statues

Throughout the game the words remain unspoken,
once they appear, before life is awoken.

After Zidane hears the words the quest of Terra begins.

So then! at first, give your thumbs a twiddle,
patience is rewarded with the end of this riddle.

Is my patience going to be rewarded?

Most right again. You're on the right tracks with words. Though you haven't given me a correct answer.
