nope it's not flans or elementals
Temples perhaps? I know the puzzles in there were quite hard first time around...
Chimeras?
not chimeras nor temples...
hints after more guesses, it will probably become waaay too obvious if i give them now...
Aeons. or spherimorph.
nope...neither of those...
Yu Yevon?
not yu-yevon...
Hint: it's an enemy....
Yunalesca?
She changes form several times, resembles a medusa at one point and has nasty attacks.
is it biran and yenke?
they are ronsos which can be small tall black or blue and "will give you hell" may refer to self-destruct and ther variety of other ronso rages available. maybe the "surprise" is that ther stats r dependant on kimahris.
I'm just guessing. Is it the Mimic,Magic urn, or maybe Seymour?
Cactuar King?
Sinspawn?
omega weapon?
And BG-57 got it right it's Yunalesca!
With several shapes, colors and sizes, three different forms
I'm sure to surprise you, you really don't expect them at first
and from the ancient greeks, a medusa is the final form
you may notice a resemblance.
Beware,
for even though I may seem weak, first forms are freakishly easy
I'm sure to give you hell, hellbiter is one attack and she is literally a pain in the ass to fight
and much, much more... mega death, mindblast and many other deadly attacks...
So BG you're up!
Oh? :greenie: Okay, here goes:
A great demon
But in name only
One limb too few
And no mane in sight
Nidhogg?
It's not Nidhogg.
Behemoth?
I think it a Chimeara.
A great demon - The Chimera is a great demon in mythology.
But in name only
One limb too few
And no mane in sight - I'm not sure, but I think it doesn't quite fit the traditional destription of a Chimera, possibly for the said reasons.
Not Behemoth or Chimera.
BG can you give us a hint?
It's Yunalesca, m i rite?
EDIT: No wait, it be Basilisk!
its tonberry isn't it :)
Sure. HintWhat's the usual number of limbs for a monster?
No and no.
No, it isn't Tonberry.
usually 4 limbs, so something with 3 limbs? maybe demonolith
A great demon
But in name only - DEMONolith maybe?
One limb too few - head arm and tail
And no mane in sight - doesn't have a mane :D
-_- It is so Demonolith... For a second guess... Demonolith?
Not Demonolith.
And again, no.
Let me clarify:
HintIt has the usual number of limbs, but one less than its namesake.
...Sphinx...? >_>
No... it is... the third form of Yunalesca?
No to both.
Is it a spider thingy?
Another hint plz. >_>
Spider thingy? No.
HintIt appears in several FF's, with variations in spelling.
Chocobo? Omega/Ultima Weapon?
It's not any of those. And remember the answer is named after a demon.
Varuna?
Mind if I join?
This isn't an RP, Ultimate Cloud. If you mean have a guess, go right ahead. If you want to make a riddle, wait until you answer one correctly.
As for the riddle, Valefor maybe? There's a demon called Valefar, which is a mix of man and lion, which would be the 'no mane in sight'.
possibly ochu? it was called ho-chu in 7 wasn't it?
something which cud be part of a lion? behemoth, a ronso, chimera?
we've had chimera, and ronso isnt a fiend. i'll guess behemoth. i dare say thats been in a previous ff.
Bahamut if it hasnt been guessed.
Ifrit
A great demon
But in name only- Maybe coming from Afrit, a spirit of Fire.
One limb too few
And no mane in sight
Buer :D. I would explain, but I know I'm right, muwhahaha.
is it Ahriman or Cockatrice
Not Behemoth.
Neither.
No to both.
We have a winner! :)
A great demon (Buer is the name of a demon)
But in name only (the flying eyeball monster in FFX bears little resemblance)
One limb too few (Buer has five legs)
And no mane in sight (Buer has a lion's head)
The FFVIII version (called Buel) looks a lot more like the mythological demon.
In ancient times over land and sea,
A group of people worshipped me;
Many feared, many did repent--
I was given the name Slayer of Serpents
In a more Spirated time, I've lost my light
My prowess, my speed, and even my fight
Flames and bolts will pierce right through
Before I can even attack you.
You talking about Auron?
From the first paragraph I'm thinking it could be Yu-Yevon, due to the part about being worshipped, though the second paragraph sounds more like Evrae's second form.
In ancient times over land and sea,
A group of people worshipped me;
Many feared, many did repent--
I was given the name Slayer of Serpents
In a more Spirated time, I've lost my light
My prowess, my speed, and even my fight
Flames and bolts will pierce right through
Before I can even attack you.
Ya its gotta be yu yevon because he is in ancient times and people worship him and many repented to him. and well it cant be evrae because fire and bolt doesent really effect him much. and it is true that yu yevon lost his light and turned evil so it has to be yu yevon.
Yeah, it is Yu Yevon
No it's not :D.
Hint? ^_^'
the faith?
HintThe first stanza doesn't refer to FFX.
Wasn't Garuda known as the Slayer of Serpents? This ties in well with the second verse too, as the FFX Garudas look intimidating, but you can kick them about pretty easily in that infamous tutorial battle on Besaid with Dark Attack and Lulu's Black Magic.
Damn, looks like Psi's got it.
Garuda was known as a Slayer of Serpents, but that's not the answer :D!
By the sound of the second verse, it sounds like an enemy. Probably one vulnerable to both fire and lightning... only one I can think of is Geosgaeno, which doesn't fit in with the rest of the verse, but I've got nothing better. Is it Geosgaeno?
is it Zuu?
Is it the Chimera, because all magics can pierce through it?
Negative.
Sin/Jecht
Not Sin.
HintThe answer is a monster.
Yojimbo?
I can only find three enemies that have a vunerability to both fire and lightning: Garm, Murussu, and Skoll.
I'll guess Garm.
and if that's not rite i'll guess murussu
and if thats not rite i'll guess skoll :D
Now why are my coat tails so heavy? ;)
Hey, I'm calling dibs on Murussu
None of these. Note that each line fits with the answer, and that "Flames and bolts" doesn't necessarily refer to elemental weaknesses.
Evrae Altana.
It's already been guessed.
sorry BG, but i couldn't be bothered walking :D
repost:
In ancient times over land and sea,
A group of people worshipped me;
Many feared, many did repent

In a more Spirated time, I've lost my light
My prowess, my speed, and even my fight
Flames and bolts will pierce right through

hints:
- the first stanza doesn't refer to ffx
- it is a monster
still have no idea tho :(
It may be something that goes down really easily. Yu-Yevon and Evrae have already been said, so second form of Gui? (where Seymour is playable).
I think it's Garm...
What a beechnut, of course, it means Spira-ted!
Right, Spirated was not a typo. None of the answers so far... keep on guessing!
HintThe first stanza refers to an ancient diety. This should be an immense help.
Shiva >=D
I think it's the boss you fight by the kilika Temple.I forgot it's nam though. sorry.
Fallen Monk
Is it Ahriman?
Ahriman is (I think) the death god in (again, I think) Ancient Zoroastrianism.
In ancient times over land and sea,
A group of people worshipped me;
Many feared, many did repent,
I was given the name Slayer of Serpents - I'm assuming this refers to the deity as it is in the religion, if it is indeed the death god, i can understand why they would fear it.
In a more spirited time, I've lost my light
My prowess, my speed, and even my fight
Flames and bolts will pierce right through
Before I can even attack you. - Being a floating-eye enemy, it is certainly not an impressive fight in FFX, although I can't entireley explain the 'Flames and Bolts' part.
Still wrong... Ahriman is some Zorastrian god, but that's not the religion I'm referring to.
just piecing bits together here, the land AND SEA thing sorta made me think of poseidon, but then the slayer of serpents made me think of the one who killed medusa, whoever that was, or maybe the hydra?
maybe poseidons weapon was a trident, like a spear which kimahri uses, spirit lance is found in thunder plains where you will also find cactuars (bolts) who are also found in bikanel (fire). my guess is cactuars as they are easier in this game than they have been in previous games.
i bet i went off on a tangent there :D
Perseus slayed medusa.
Edit: Is flames literal? As in a fire spell?
Bahamut?
He can cast Firaga and Thundaga, and he has been in other FFs.
Although it's most likely wrong.
I'm just gonna go ahead and tell you guys thats "flames" has very little to do with the riddle.
Magic?
Nope...like I said, the first stanza refers to a particular deity.
Fiends or Souls
Is it the monster Varuna?
In ancient times over land and sea,
A group of people worshipped me;
Many feared, many did repent
I was given the name Slayer of Serpents - I think Varuna is a deity of some kind in Vedic religion, and although I'm not sure about the Slayer of Serpents part, he is sometimes depicted holding a noose made of a snake.
In a more Spirated time, I've lost my light
My prowess, my speed, and even my fight
Flames and bolts will pierce right through
Before I can even attack you. - As Varuna is just a common monster in FFX, I can't imagine its power being anywhere near that of a god. "I've lost my light" also fits, as it is a Dark monster which takes extra damage from the Holy element.
I dont know if it's been said or not but i'm thinking Chimera. It's just a wild guess so.
None of these.
Hint It is a fiend.
Omeg Weapon?
I thinks it the Garuda.
In ancient times over land and sea,
A group of people worshipped me;
Many feared, many did repent
I was given the name Slayer of Serpents - In Hindu religion, I'm prety sure Garuda is a is a birdlike deity, who is an implacable enemy of snakes.
In a more Spirated time, I've lost my light
My prowess, my speed, and even my fight
Flames and bolts will pierce right through
Before I can even attack you. - I think this is a reference to the compulsory fight in which you have to summon Valefor to kill a Garuda which attacks your party, and of course Garuda is no match for your Aeon. I'm pretty sure the 'Flames and bolts' part describes Valefors Sonic Ray Overdrive, which quite seriously whips the Garuda's behind.
Garuda has already been guessed. It's not Omega Weapon. :)
Oh, Damn, Sorry.
Umm... Buer?
EDIT: The first stanza refers to Ra, m i rite?
Buer was the answer to the last riddle, and that's not it.
Doesn't refer to Ra, it refers to the name of the answer.
.-. More hints?
No more hints until more guessing!! Providing reasoning may help me to point you in the right direction (though I already have a lot).
Razors?
The first paragraph makes me think of Thor and his slaying of the great serpent Jormungand in Norse mythology. While Jormungand is a monster arena fiend, that was the serpent slain, not what did the slaying. The only thing in FFX I can easily associate with Thor is Ixion's Overdrive, which obviously isn't the answer. So I geuss that line of thought's out of the picture?
Didn't Hercules also slay serpents when he was a few months old? Though he's technically a demi-god...
Dark Ixion because Enjolras said Thor slayed a serpent in norse mythologyh and thats Ixion's overdrive, and in the EU version they have the Dark Aeons, so technically, Dark Ixion is a monster.
Nope, I'll give you another clue.
HintThe diety in question is from Egyptian mythology.
...Set? But I can't connect him to anything in FFX....
Anhur was a foreign god - which may be the over land and sea bit - and he was called Slayer of Enemies. But I also can't think of what relevance he has to Spira.
Was there a wolf type Fiend called Anubis?
mafdet
Huzzah!
In ancient times over land and sea, --Egypt is far away
A group of people worshipped me; --Mafdet was a diety
Many feared, many did repent --She "the executioner"
I was given the name Slayer of Serpents --Just a name she was given
In a more Spirated time, I've lost my light--In Spira, she's not worshipped
My prowess, my speed, and even my fight --She was a cat-like goddess, and no longer has her feline prowess or speed, nor is the fiend Mafdet able to fight
Flames and bolts will pierce right through --Flames was supposed to throw you a little (it referred to magic), but Mafdet (the fiend) is week to lightining (bolts) and piercing weapons.
Before I can even attack you.--Mafdet has horrible speed stats.
GAH! D:
thank god someone got it right.
Well? Next riddle?
sorry, I am not on that much to make riddles, someone please take my turn.
Not your destiny
But offers much
And tempts the greedy
Would you refuse?
Bribe.
Mimic
yojimbo?
Not your destiny --> is an optional aeon
But offers much --> zanmato
And tempts the greedy --> need to be greedy and hav a lot of money to buy him
Would you refuse? --> i know i never have :D
No to all three. Although the optional part is correct.
Monster Arena? *readies list of mini-game/sidequests for next guess*
Not the Monster Arena itself, but the answer is related to it.
Nemesis.
Not Nemesis. But you're thinking along the right lines here.
Treasure Chest?
It's not a treasure chest.
Rikku's Godhand-its an ultimate weapon, so you dont HAVE to get it, i.e. optional, and it has gillionaire which doubles gil earned right? So it tempts the greedy because theyll want more money.
Doesn't sound like a monster I can think of... clear spheres maybe?
It's not Godhand or Clear Spheres. And the answer is a fiend. :p
Repost:
Not your destiny
But offers much
And tempts the greedy
Would you refuse?
I dont know the exact name, but its a monster with a whole bunch of eyes and its in a pot(the pot has the eyes) and its in the cavern of stolen fayth and if you hit the right eye, you get something good, and if you hit the wrong one, it blows up.
Nope.
so its a fiend, in an optional quest and it is related to the monster arena?
no real answer here just sharing ideas
repost:
Not your destiny
But offers much
And tempts the greedy
Would you refuse?
Correct.
HintGreed is not referring to Gil.
i think it's one of the bosses in the monster arena but i forgot it's name.
gosh darn it:mad:!
Nemesis?
It might be greedy for AP? In that case Don Tonberry or Cactuar King. If I can only take one guess, Don Tonberry.
You are correct! The answer is Don Tonberry. :)
Not your destiny (Optional Fiend, also has an attack called Karma)
But offers much (Best way to get AP)
And tempts the greedy (People that want AP)
Would you refuse? ('An offer you can't refuse' is a reference to the Godfather, Don Corleone)
Alright, I've been waiting for a turn to do this one...
I'm a immovable obstacle
But if you fill me with wonder
With the winning speed
You'll claim the prize over yonder
I'm guessing this has something to do with the thunder plains quest...
I'm a immovable obstacle (Thunder plains pillars)
But if you fill me with wonder (dunno bout this)
With the winning speed (to dodge lighting you have to be fast)
You'll claim the prize over yonder (the prize for doing the quest is probably over the other side of the thunder plains)
i think it refers to the butterfly hunt
I'm a immovable obstacle --> can't touch the see-throught chest until u complete it
But if you fill me with wonder --> every time u grab a blue butterfly a "ghostly" chest falls into the one already there, therfore "filling" it
With the winning speed --> gotta be fast for the best prize
You'll claim the prize over yonder --> the chest is always a little walk away from the final butterfly
The Chocobo Race.
whoa I agree with devil phoenix That has to be the best answer.
No, it's not the Thunder Plains sidequest. That is good reasoning, devil, but it's not the butterfly hunt either. 4evarisha is on the right track.
HintThe answer is a specific person.
The chocobo that stands in youre way near that temple were you get the magus siters
It's the guy in the Calm Lands who stands in the way of getting the Caladbolg.
I'm an immovable obstacle - He doesn't move under normal circumstances.
But if you fill me with wonder
With the winning speed - If you impress him by winning the Chocobo race...
You'll claim the prize over yonder He'll move outta your way so you can grab Tidus' CW.
That is correct, Enjolras got it, saving me the trouble of explaining why. Your turn.
Someone take my turn.
me me okay
nobody likes me
I am so gay
WTF
clue:my name begins with a tid and ends with an s
Tidulousaporanoids?

though i am the one of the last you will find
you better watch out because pain is not far behind:)
Is it Anima
give me a call and I will obey - If its summoned then it will have to obey you.
only two can use me i am quite great - only yuna and seymour can use anima and it really is quite great.
though i am the one of the last you will find - he is the last fayth
you better watch out because pain is not far behind - anima uses pain ... :D.
DAMNIT yes you are right  that was my first proper riddle
ITs cool... It was actually a pretty good one... I liked it :D... well anyways I guess its my turn.
one seeking the answers will have to fight

I Was unbeatable but came the light

braska yunalescas final aeon yecht
Aw, my turn was taken that fast?

All Knowing...
Needed, but never appreciated...
Some would call me, a historian.
Maechen?
Maechen.
maechen?
What is this, Survivor elimination or something?
Oh, okay. *Turns over card* Maechen.
The tribe has spoken!
maechen?
*hehehe*
wow how many pages can these forums get up to?and i say maechen also.
LETs SEE HOW MANY WE CAN GET UP TO
maechen:)
Sorry to be a spoilsport. ;)
If Goldenboko doesn't confirm soon, what say we just let 4evarisha pass Go and collect $200?
well ff7 riddles is on 120 pages i think. this is without a doubt the most successful thread i have made, and will be very happy if it reaches 100
Yep you guys got it.
4evarisha got it first so its her turn, ur up 4evarisha!
I was a peaceful place
I was destroyed by sin
I was made from hope and love
I am made and rebuilt
I tried sorry if it doesnt make sense.
Kilika?
I'll say Zanarkand, only because Kilika's been said. That's probably the answer.
yeah its Kilika BG-57 your turn.
Woe to the conquorer
An act of contrition
The only suitable music
Would be a lacrimosa
Seymour? Lacrimosa is a part of the Requiem, and Requiem is Seymour's Overdrive...
Good guess, but it's not Seymour.
A sending.
Woe to the conquorer
An act of contrition-contrition is like extreme sorrow or remorse for sins
The only suitable music
Would be a lacrimosa- part of a requiem, a requiem is music honoring the dead.
It's not a sending, but you're right about it being an event.
Jyscal Guado
Woe to the conquorer - Jyscal "conquered" the Guado
An act of contrition - He was contrite about how he treated his son
The only suitable music
Would be a lacrimosa - Lacrimosa is sad music
Pyrflies?
think about it guys he said its an event?
is it wen tidus defeats jecht/braska's final aeon? he is sadden by the loss of his father and so sad music would be apt.
