So I still don't quite get the damage cap in Median. I realize it's 65k, but what exactly happens when you "roll over"? Are you saying that all damage inflicted (once "rolling over" the 65k mark) is then taken from only your stats, and not the net total of your stats and weapons and other item modifiers?
And furthermore, does this apply to poison directly as well? I ask this because poison is not administered all at once but over x amount of seconds. My guess is yes, but I have been wrong on many - if not most - accounts.
Unless you can do 65535 Poison damage per second, Poison does not have an actual damage cap. Basically, once you get to 65k, anything higher is chopped off by 65k TOTAL. Afterwards, your damage begins at 1, and rises according to the difference of the damage remaining. This roll over calculation is done from skills and all modifiers.
For example, let's say I have 35 points in a damage skill. It does 35k. I have a Magic damage modifer total of 300%. I have a total Character Damage Bonus of 100%. Since they are two different modifications, they are calculated separately. 300% Damage is like four times the true amount. 1.4e5 damage, with the Total Bonus 100% is like doubling the damage. I now deal 2.8e5 damage. If I divide the damage by 65000 and take the remainder, I now deal 20000. That's how you get your true damage.
Now, of course, those bonuses are not reflective of the actual math used in calculating damage in Median. I myself have similar stats, but only do slightly less than 65k with Mark of the Wild. I just needed some good, clean numbers.
I started a summoning Barbarian, and plan on using Corruption to get myself some Acid Fiends. I don't plan on playing this character frequently, because, well, let's face it, my Druid is more fun to use.
Side note: The damage cap only applies if you use 1.11 as your base diablo installation. 1.10 actually doesn't have a damage cap due to some coding, whereas 1.11 reinstated the old 1.09 formula. Since fundamentally there's no real difference between 1.10 and 1.11 baring merc recruitment levels and the Open Wounds formula, it's recommended you use 1.10, especially if you're damage is overflowing.
Too bad mercs in Median are fairly useless outside of normal play. Their AI sucks.
I generally find I can easily go without mercs with many of the builds I make in Median, and indeed in normal LOD. Generally I don't like mercs, as due to their suicidal nature and high cost their movements generally dictate the pace of the game rather than your own.
That's why I never bought mercs in vanilla until after level 85. I also didn't use mercs in Median; they suck.
Thanks Tav.
And yes, I also find mercenaries useless in Median. In vanilla, they were nice due to their ability to tank and stack auras, but now... they just die.
Oh happy day - v 1.10 come to me!!
I used a merc from act to act 3 just to tank everything. But after some certain things..they just completely died. Hatred difficulty too. Now I'm my own tank..Also lost a unique level 10 bow while transferring..damn D2 crashed.
I lost over 300 Crafted and Magic Jewels, 10 -8% Requirements Jewels, 10 of every color of Gem, a Sacred Unique Polearm, multiple runeworded items, and set items because of PlugY (Horadric Cube isn't counted as a specific item, so it erased everything inside once opened).
Waah.
Yeah, never, under any circumstances, place your cube in your stash whilst using Plugy. The two really do not get on.
Yeah, well, I know that NOW. I did a Fautzinville run in Terror, and I made up for what I lost in Gems.
Jewels are an entirely different story. And the unique wasn't that good.
EDIT: I like where this is going!
Grawr...
How do I revert back to 1.10?
I hate Act III..such a pain finding all these places..
I tried playing with Yummie again through an IP game and it still didn't work. I'm beginning to wonder if I can play Median with others at all period. That will sucky suck. I wanted to play with him and make a purely support Necro just for kicks D:
He replaced Winged Strike with a new skill and I thought my spearazon would finally get some levels, but... not so much with the new one either.
