I didn't realize so many people hated Catelyn and Sansa. I was always indifferent to the two. Regarding Sansa now all I feel is pity. And a strong need to punch things... But I always want to punch things in King's Landing.
Yeah I think Sansa gets a lot of unfair hate. She was just a starry eyed child who didn't know any better and now she's trapped in a nightmarish situation.
Catelyn though, ehhhhhfffff. I don't know. I feel an incredible amount of pity for her given what she had to witness, all the people she loved dying one by one. That's horrible and I guess grief does terrible things... but she was still kind of a bitch before then. I'll forgive her the day she forgives Jon Snow :colbert: Game of Thrones needs ghosts. Force ghosts. Ghost King Robert wrecking trout with a spectral warhammer would be incredible. I'm just sayin'.
It's probably because I haven't watched the first season in a while, but I don't remember her relationship with Jon Snow all that well. Unless this was something the books went into more.
people hate sansa and katelyn? :(
i love Sansa! she is really developing from Damsel in distress/hostage to a strong young woman
I think the hate for Sansa comes from people's frustration with her. She's a romantic/idealist character in a world that is anything but those two things. If we were dumped in Westeros most of us would act quite similarly to her (I know I would), but because we exist outside of their universe as spectators it's easier for us to pass judgement. We want her to do well, and we know what is necessary for her to succeed, but she isn't doing those things.
Stay strong, show-watchers. It gets better.
Getting dumped in Westeros would be awful. You'd have to take a trout in the bushes. Smurf that.
(SPOILER)The spoiler for season four is that there will be even more rude people in armour this season.
2 of my favorites honestly. I just admire how Cat continues on serving others regardless of how much she's been through, she's afforded no time to grieve or mourn. Martin hits home how criminally under appreciated our matriarchs are in our own lives.
I guess a lot of people dislike Sansa because she ratted out Ned and got her entire household in the capital killed. She was kind of a brat in the beginning. But she has the most profound tragedy IMO. Most other characters still have their core values and belief systems driving them forward but Sansa watches as everything she believes in gets destroyed. So much so that she fears hope at many points. It's fascinating to wonder what kind of woman is going to emerge from the wreckage.
Can't wait!
The thing about Sansa betraying her family is...again, she was a little girl. She was taught to revere the Queen and she had a puppy love crush on her--at the time--future husband. So when they asked her to *betray* her family she trusted them. They manipulated the trout out of her. And I think if you were an 11-year-old little girl and an adult you trusted said they were going to help you and your family, you'd probably believe them.
I didn't like Sansa at first, but she has become one of my absolute favorites in both book and series. I think her story is one of the most compelling. Same thing with Cat.
exactly, she just wants to save her family so bad, that she is oblivious to the true nature of Cersei and Joffrey (in the 1st season).
she is a naive young girl who's dream gets shattered. she gets a hard wake-up call and learns the hard way that the world isnt all roses and rainbows and happy endings.
i adore her. i always get excited when i see that the next chapter is about Sansa (im only at the first book yet)
