Theres a lot better symphomic/power metal, they don't do anything to really distinguish themselves too greatly. I love Tarja's voice, and the orchestral work IS good. However, bands like Kamelot, Ayreon, and Blind Guardian do similar stuff but better, and are a lot more experimental (namely Ayreon, but definitely not Kamelot's Ghost Opera album! xP).
I think Nightwish is an awesome band. However, I do prefer Tarja over the new singer, Annette. My favorite song ever has to be "Nemo." I'm just kind of odd like that, though.
I just listened to them. I don't really care for the singer's voice. She sounds like she'd sound better singing something other than rock. I dunno. Other than that, the music is beautiful. :)
Edit: I mean, her voice is pretty, but it just seems out of place to me.

For anyone who needs to hear the new singer and judge - check that. She's just brilliant I think and is equally good lives by the looks of things. I'll wait till March 25th to tell first hand. ^^; *squee*
Dark Chest of Wonders and Devil and the Deep, Dark Ocean play over Street Fighter Alpha 3 in certain online tournaments.
question, you dont seem to even like nightwish so why go into a thread where it is said in the title it's about said band you do not like.
Is it so you can tell everyone who do like them that you seriously dislike them.
it's just like metallica threads the moment the word goes out whe have one all slayer and megadeth fans bust in to say how much they hate it because they "sold out" (as if they're own favourite band hasnt.)
I believe I stated that I found them to be "decent", which is not a word typically associated with dislike for a given thing. My statement in regards to how remarkable they were is not a show of dislike or hatred, moreso a sign that I beleive there to be better bands out there.
So, in conclusion, shut up.
I noticed people said about bands being "experimental" and how it was a good thing. How are Nightwish not experimental?
There is a new feel to their music with every album and they even just had a change of vocalist. Surely that's experimental enough.
the fact is that they're experimenting in a way some people just cant follow, they're minds just can't grasp to the idea of experimentation in that kind of direction.
None of the bands I named are in any way obscure.
I'm allowed to voice my opinion on anything in any thread, no one is attacking anyone, so don't whine about it. It's called a discussion not a "lets all have a giant fan orgy."
I can't listen to Once and honestly say they're breaking new ground anywhere.
I listened to the "new" Nightwish and I must say that Anette has a lovely voice but NO!! I can't stand her...I might as well listen to Within Tempation and cut my wrists....
But I found that by the time Once came out Tarja had kinda lost her operatic quality, nothing like the amazingness of her voice from Oceanborn to Century Child. Not to say that her singing was bad, she just didn't sound as operatic as before. That's why Once is one of my least favorite albums...on the other hand, just when Nightwish had finally thrown away their awful synth-keyboard bridges that sounded like the casino levels from Sonic the Hedgehog (like in the cringeworthy songs Crownless and Stargazers, auiuuuugh!! and that's only to name a few) and replaced it with decent orchestral pieces, Tarja's vocal quality declined. So I think everything just started growing and happening at a bad time...
As for Anette, I can't see her ever performing epics like Beauty of the Beast or Sleeping Sun. In fact, I hope she never sings them at all. Everything that Nightwish was took a hairpin turn after the making of Once and Tarja's departure. If she had stayed on they would have been even better.Unfortunately she just had to go all diva on everyone. *sigh*
That's just my opinion. if you disagree, please don't kill me.
